So my 2002 Allroad with the 2.5 TDI has been acting a little quirky lately and I'd like to get it sorted out before a couple of long road trips coming up and also to sell it before we move.
When started cold (sitting all night, temp around 34* F) it has been blowing quite a lot of bluish smoke and smells very strongly of diesel. Typically it has a little miss while it's cold too. The smoking and miss stop pretty quickly - maybe 30 seconds, especially if I bring the RPMs up a bit. Otherwise, it seems to be running alright. No lack of power or anything, but sometimes it just feels slightly off. Hard to explain really. But I have noticed that even when warm and not smoking it still smells like diesel more than it used to.
Honestly, I don't know that much about diesels so I'm not really sure what to look for here. I'm not opposed to taking it somewhere (though I am fundamentally against paying someone else to work on my stuff), but wanted to check here for some suggestions first.
Thanks in advance.
