Awesome Custom DOT Brakelines: UPDATE W/PICS

the cover is from GreatLakesOffroad.com, and the brake bracket is from ruffStuff, i had to modifiy the bracket a lil bit to fit over the welds on the cover, but it is an awesome piece, and i'm definitely happy with how it turned out.. now i just have to run some nicely bent lines down the housing, which is going to be a fun task all on its own..

I went ahead and ordered two 16" 3/16" IF to 3/8" banjo lines from G&J Aircraft for my rear brakes. I wimped out on the whole "braided stainless from T to caliper" thing :embarrassed: Details in my Blog (see sig). The lines look great - I pimped them out with a clear abrasion resistant plastic sheath and had them throw in a pair of M10x1.5 banjo bolts. Total shipped = $50.45. ORD was $65 before shipping and I'm not sure if that included the banjo bolts. As of a week ago, ORD still does not have the "long" rear disc kit they list on their website.

here you go, i still have to strap them to the shocks so they dont get ripped off by the tires..

thanks for the pics. you might wana fix your shackle angle, it looks like its pretty much hitting at ride height (im sure u are aware of this).

for the brakelines, find some kind of bungy cord type thing so that it stay tight against the shock, but when you flex it allows it to move out to utilize the extra length, then it'll retract once ur on flat ground again

yea the shackle angle sucks, i didnt figure for the extra length of the lifted 52's when i installed them:doah:. I have a couple of cool ideas of how to keep the lines out of harms way, so i will post up when i get there, which is hopefully soon..

and my rear one too..lol, it;s still a work in progress, i'm waiting to finish my 241 doubler before i dump some money into some d-shafts.

I know a guy that used a throttle return spring from the frame to his brake line

I guess I should update what I ended up doing. At first I went with 16" braided stainless lines and hard lines from the "T" to the caliper. Then I mounted my shocks and found that they wanted to live in the same spot as the hard lines. That and the fact that I really hated doing the double flare and didn't feel good about how it turned out, caused me to change plans. I went back to G and J Aircraft and got some 38" braided stainless lines. They were only $10-15 more than the 16" lines :doah:. I should have just done that in the beginning. I suppose there may be more ballooning than before, but I don't notice it. I also feel much better about the durability of the flex lines than the hard lines and this setup eliminates a joint where the lines could leak (especially if the double flare isn't great).

Enough blabbering - pics:
