These are fascinating motors. I would LOVE to put one in a bobbed deuce. :saweet:

Eh, I've never been much impressed with them and I've been around them more than most guys. 8V71 turbo'd (318) was pretty gutless, 6V92 same thing. The 8V92 was a pretty strong engine though, and especially the 12V71. I've been around the little one's too, spent a bunch of wheel time driving a little 4-53 with an old 6spd Allison behind it, I hated that engine.

We always felt the Big Cam Cummins 855 was a better engine than the Detroits, quieter, better mileage, more torque down low. The BC Cummins and especially the 3406B Cat pretty much spelled out the end of that 2 stroke Detroit era in the trucks.

FYI?.... Thanks professor. :haha:

I've noticed a LOT of armchair experts and talkers around lately. I have no patience for talkers, dreamers or some random turd on some random forum, and every bit of respect for doers and people that make things happen. If you discredit an idea, or "speak with authority" on something you've never laid your hands on....then your opinion and 'experience' is uninformed and irrelevant. Not to mention lame as hell.

Sh!t like that just makes me want to go do all the things the talking heads say can't be done, just to prove a point.

If no one's done it, then no one knows if it's a good idea or not, period. Saying otherwise, by definition, make's those people full of sh!t.

Just watching the video, seeing the size of the dude walking around it for scale, tells me everything "I" need to know about how big it is. And also, how feasible it is.

And since when does ANYTHING discourage any "car" guy from doing wierd-ass projects like that? I don't see any issue making it work. But then...I know what I'm doing.

It's cool because it's a two stroke diesel.

Geez...you people must be the most damn boring people on the planet to hang out with.

To be clear...comments mostly directed at the nameless ones that say a thing can't be done. After the circle jerk of ignorance I saw in another thread, I've decided to disregard and ignore any statement by a person I feel is an ignorant tool. Mr K30 isn't an ignorant tool, not directed his way. He's an a$$hole for sure...but not a tool. I can respect that.

All I know is that the 2 stroke in our Mack tow truck in the early 80's ran liked a raped ape. Not sure on the displacement. But dual tubos fed the 871 blower. It was in a 40 feet long dual winch truck that weighed 50k pounds.

Dad would back the rear brake cans off, pull up to the line at Orange County International Raceway during the truck shows, with a 3 axle tractor on the hook, and light all 8 rear tires up. The straight exhaust on that thing sounded so cool through the turbos.

Exactly. A motor like that, in a deuce or similar...would be the coolest sled pulling truck I've seen in a long time. Fun, cool, unique and interesting. Not boring, or typical.

Wow...okay...

I actually HAVE spent time around a multiple different 2 stroke Detroits. IMHO, they make good boat motors and that's about it.

There is a reason why the BC 855 Cummins and 3406B pretty much did the old Detroits in, in the OTR truck market.

What I disliked about them the most, from my experience, is how noisy they are, and their lack of lower RPM power. They like to rev.

Stick a 12V92 in whatever you want, deuce and a half, riding lawnmower, whatever, they are still what they are. Don't get me wrong though, like anything, there is a small select group out there that love those old engines.

I've worked on a bunch of them. No one runs them anymore. Mostly just old gen sets. Neat, but outdated. Detroit replaced them with the Series 60's, and then dominated the on highway market.

Werner trucking use to have a show truck with a V16 in it. I am not sure if it is still around. I'll google it.

Nothin directed at you my friend...it just looked that way, unfortunate timing is all.

However...ya'all are funny. It's not about how much sense it makes, or how feasible, or realistic a thing is. It's about how cool it would be, or how interesting, how much it would get people talking, considering new things and ideas, innovating and making new stuff, not just rehashing the same boring-ass sh!t that everyone does. Anyone can do the same thing everyone else does, but that's just boring, lame and un-interesting. It's more fun to set yourself apart from the crowd, set a precedent, and run with it, see how far you can take it...than to follow along with what everyone else does.

It's the leadership thing/mentality. See signature. Peel out, do cool things, Be More. And most importantly...haters gonna hate, potatoes gonna po-tate. Fry 'em up, add ketchup, nom on the deep fried tears of the haters. :saweet:

I've had all the experience I want with doing things the same way everything else does. There is nothing more to learn for me. Atleast nothing interesting. So, I make my own interesting things and situations. ;)

Jesus....

Apology? Not even close. I have nothing to apologize to him for. I happened to be typing my post, while he was typing his. He posted his before I posted mine...that's where the unfortunate timing thing came from. Nothing I said was directed at him. Pay attention to all the details... before you open your mouth...putz.

I've known rjf for a long time, we've both been kickin around this website for a lot of years. I respect his opinion because his experiences are real, not acedemic. I think I've even wheeled with him at Hollister a few times? Might be thinking of someone else. It's been along time.

Negative now it all's like you get old. Just like the transfer case thread! :waytogo:

I like the way this one sounds...gives my ears a woodie!..:D

Unfortunately it was never put into production, this one was one of few prototypes built supposedly..

Bad ass. :saweet:

During my first enlistment, I was in an armor battalion, we had a lot more tracked vehicles than my latest enlistment with a CAV unit. I used to LOVE listening to the M113's hauling ass across the training area at full throttle. Ear-gasm for sure. Something about 2 stroke motors, diesel or gas, they both sound awesome.

Can you please keep the drama out of here? You started this with a totally uncalled for drama post, out of the blue... that has nothing to do with the discussion at hand. (wtf? #1) Calling me names, (wtf? #2) when YOU didn't understand the situation, (wtf? #3) and referencing another thread, (wtf? #4) that I have purposefully removed myself from, (havent been to that thread since my last reply) and you did all of that for no reason other than to start sh!t. (wtf? #5)

If you don't like me...fine. I'm used to that. But keep it yourself if it doesn't involve you.
