Back again..... Vegas to Reno

Wow I feel like I'm looking at the inside of a celebrity right now.. Crazy.

image.jpg The axle housing has been unbolted from everything, and is ready to be taken in for a new diff and gearing. I run 4.56 's with 35" tires.

What does that make for top speed? And what would you say is a decent cruising rpm?

I'll trust someone else will look up the formula, but of the few times I have run a section long enough, like a dry lake, it's been in the 105-110 mph. I don't like to turn the motor much over 5,000 rpm for any length of time. The Blazer is dancing at the top end. With 11" of front wheel travel, with ok brakes, driving at top speed for any length of time is a ride on the wild side. The truth is that most of the racing I'm doing is between second and third gear on my T-400.

It's a fight to get this done. My wife is now realizing that I am in race mode, which means nothing else will get done until the Blazer is done. Almost, my kid's cars are keeping me busy. I have a 2002 Volvo s40, that I'm trying to get back on the road for my daughter to use as she heads to med school on the Monday after the race at USC. It had been stolen and crashed. Did I say I was going to be broke the rest of my life? Car two is a pos 2006 Mini Cooper S. Fun to drive in a city and on mountain roads, but it sucks from faulty design. After fighting trans valve body issues, it now apparently has a cracked oil filter housing, a common problem. WTF. $350 bucks for the housing. The Mini dealer wanted $1,600 to fix. I have to go pick it up tonight in SF and bring it back to the barn, where guess who will fix it. I love my kids.... can't wait until they buy new cars.

Ready for a 45 minute ride to a rear end shop. Hope he can get it done by the middle of next week.

I finally was able to drop off the front end at the Rear End Shop in Livermore. I was told it would be ready by the end of the week. Gettin' close to D-day!! My wife told me last night if I don't do this race that it's ok to run the 1000 in Nov.
I was thinking both would be better, but I'm wasn't really looking for a headache .

The rear end is good, with the exception of the passenger side hub seal. A small amount of fluid has leaked out of the hub, and the pumpkin.
Yes, it would be nice to pull the empty the housing to clean and paint, but it may have to wait. I found out yesterday that I have to travel out of state for three days this next week.

No, I haven't been able to travel to the So Cal yet. The front shocks all had significant pressure when I bled them down to get them off, and no evidence of leaking, so worst case is I'll stick them back on when I, hopefully, get my front axle back on Friday.

I had to withdraw from the race today. The news that I had to move my daughter to LA on tues and weds next week, combined with the fact I lost three days of prep while I was traveling for work this week, put me in a tough spot. I'm still pretty convinced I could have gotten the Blazer to the starting line, but it would have been rough and I would have been totally blowing off of work.
