So now that I got the trans sorted I am bringing this back up. Since the NV4500 sits so far back I want to change the NP208 Shift linkage and cover location. A D150 or Dodge Ram charger np208 linkage design is so much better than Chevy as it mounts to the trans/transfer adapter very stout. Not mounted to the floor like GM. Problem being there is no where to bolt this linkage to an nv4500 adapter. So my plan is to fabricate some bracketry back to where I can bolt it on the adapter housing. This will give the 4x4 shifter a very small profile boot on the passenger side of the tunnel and the correct pattern shift knob for easy recognition.

Oh and it keeps the linkage mechanical to avoid the problems with cable style shifter.

Just about got all the parts together for the trans. Just need a new top cover. Was hoping to find a good used oem square top but may have to a/m

Bought 2 new top covers both times the purchase was refunded and no part shipped without any type of notification. Super weird. Well I can at least get the bottom end together. Been researching any necessary modifications while I have the case apart. Can’t get anything you need in this town had to order and am waiting for a shipment of Redline MT-85 so I can assemble the main shaft. I’ll get to it eventually. Just been so dang busy.

Light-medium-heavy duty shift rail poppet springs? I’m leaning towards light in 1-2-3-4 and heavy in 5-R choices…. Hmmmm

I decided on medium in all positions.

Got the main shaft disassembled . Will need a synchro key kit so got that on order 1-2 and 3-4 keys are trashed. Once I get that key kit I can then reassemble the entire transmission. Got all the MT-85 to fill it up. Ready to go. Just another week or two should have it together. Then I can begin the front end tear down on the truck and stuff all this goodness deep in it

Spent basically my entire evening trying to assemble the 1-2 hub and synchro keys. Finally got it though haha only took 76 attempts or so.

Can’t move on until I find something to press this bearing onto the mainshaft. Have the main shaft half rebuilt currently.

Going to modify this 20 ton press as well.

Stick the bearing in an oven for a bit. Should expand enough to drop down.

I use an iron clamped upside down in the vice. I check the temperature with small water drops. When it sizzles off almost immediately, it's hot enough. And old guy taught me that, back before temperature guns.

Press and my new homemade tool works great. Now if only I put the correct thrust washer under the bearing
