As some of you know, the Unangst family has been actively searching for a new K5 over the last year or so. Up here, the K-series rigs are a dying breed due to our hard winters, and my search started focusing on the good ol' USofA- the only place to find "that" truck was gonna for sure be south of the border.

Last week, max 02(Dean) forwarded me a link to what appeared to be a cherry 88 Silverado located an hour south of me. The pics looked great, but some of the standard Silverado equipment seemed missing(power windows and locks, and tinted rear glass). I called the owner this evening, and found out that he had purchased the truck from the original owner, who had ordered it from the factory without all the power options because he didn't want all that "newfangled power stuff".

The truck is an odd combination- it's a Silverado with a 4 speed standard, no power locks or windows(except the rear glass), AM radio, no tilt column, but has AC and cruise and power steering. FWIW, I can't recall ever seeing a Silverado with a standard tranny before. The amazing thing about this truck is it only has 28K miles on it, is absolutely rust free, and other than a couple of drivetrain seals that are dry and leaking slightly ,it is in mint condition in and out. The dash pad is crack-free, it still has the "88" written in white pen in various locations, and the little yellow factory tags(fuel and brake lines, etc) are still in place and somewhat legible!!!!

We're going back tomorrow evening to test drive it, but I'm 99% sure it's gonna drive as good as it looks. Good Lord willing, a K5 will be back in our driveway all these years later!!!! :woot:

Onto the pics:

Wow, that is clean looking. What's the plan?

Nice ride

Good luck with the purchase Paul, kid know how to drive a stick or does Kim get to teach her

The plan is to keep it stock and use it as a weekend/fair weather cruiser. There's no way I'm gonna molest this thing- up here it's a needle in a haystack truck!!!!

As far as training the kid to drive a standard, I guess Kim and I will be sharing in the frustration!!!! :rotfl:

The cool thing is the entire family is stoked right now!!!!

Very nice truck, and the original owner had the same train of thought as I would have if I oredered it..manual trans,no "fancy crap to f up!"...

I'd be a purist in the first degree if I even got to own one that unmolested..that thing looks like it could win "best original" at a show no problem a-tall..

I see nothing odd in that! To darn nice to drive in any rain or snow :thumb:

Very nice indeed
I think that 88 might be the assy line # and not the year
What a coincedence

I sure hope it all works out!

But Kim might be upset when she finds out the Camaro is out of the garage for the winter!:haha:
