Yeah, ATS turbo'd diesel conservatively putting down over 450 lbs of torque to the ground...will run at absolutely any angle...and will pull down double the fuel mileage of a small block. I can see why you'd want to skip all that.![]()
For crawling it's a damn hard combo to beat. There isn't a gas engine out there that will equal the torque at idle. With the ATS turbo there are very few small blocks putting down it's peak numbers either...Add the doubler and 5.13's and that rig would be a wet dream to crawl with.
Dave, apparently to correctly time a diesel you need some fancy timing probe. I've never seen it done, but do know that tool is spendy...it can be pretty closely ballparked, and if it smokes a llittle it prolly just needs the timing bumped up a hair.

I understand you like deisels but 550 ft lbs is not "rare" on a sb. Just depends on who you roll with. I know this thing has you excited but saying there isn't a gas engine out there that will equal the at idle torque is a hell of a statement. By the way who has ever dyno a diesel or any motor for that matter at idle. You have to spin deisels up to make torque they don't pull like a bulldozer off idle... whatever it doesn't matter.
I didn't see the turbo either.
