Made the 70 mile drive home, seems to run and shift fine. So it will donate it’s 5.3/4l60 and now I am on the hunt for a transfer case. Options are between the 90-91 1/2 ton np241c and a 208. If anyone has any input on which one is better to use I am all ears. I know the 241c will work with the VSS but not sure about my stock cable speedometer? I want to use my stock gauges if I can. The 208 and a advance adapter would work with VSS and cable speedo right? Also not sure of what trans crossmember I’ll need, will my stock one work? I still obviously have a ton of research to do. Please point me towards any of yalls build threads or good articles that could be of use if you know of any. Feels good to have made the first step happen though.
I would be driving this burb as is.
It looks good from here, what's wrong with it?

Rusty, missing lots of interior pieces, strange noise coming from left front wheel area when braking and turning, and no title.

Besides that?
Good luck with the swap.

Making progress! Got the engine and trans out of the suburban last week and have it up on my stand, been cleaning on it and am still trying to decide if I want to fool with painting it or not. Going to replace valve cover, valley cover, water pump and intake gaskets as well as the knock sensors and harness and oil and temp sensors while it’s out. Have found a guy local to rework my harness and flash pcm. As soon as I can save some more $ this show will be on the road. Want to buy everything I will need before I take the truck apart that way I can complete the swap as quickly as possible and not have the truck blown apart for too long. Also, scored a new front bumper for 25$ with brackets yesterday. Brought it home, scuffed it and painted it and threw it on today. Much better than the old bent up one. And throwing in a pic of the old girl earning her keep the other day. Cut some wood at a friends place and hauled home about 1600lbs worth. First time I have really put her to work since I’ve had it.

Looks good.

This truck is going to look very similar to my K10 when I’m done with it. Also a 74 longbed but it’s a different shade of paint (Spanish Gold) with more trim/chrome.

Got a pic or 2? I see your c10 Sancho build. You putting it on a 4x4 frame?

Things are happening! Got the 5.3 totally degreased and painted yesterday, and started installing some of the new gaskets I got for it. Ordering most of the parts for the swap this week and plan to pull the current drivetrain out of the truck this weekend and hopefully at least start on the swap, current goal is to have the bugs worked out and be able to hop in it and go by the end of May.

Had a very productive weekend! Old drivetrain came out yesterday and got the 5.3/4l60e/208 installed. Engine fits good and doesn’t hit anything. Trans and t case as well. Using an advance adapter for VSS output. Hope it works. Next weekend should be fuel system, trans cooler lines, engine accessories and maybe start hooking up wiring if the harness is ready. What are you LS guys running for exhaust manifolds or short-mid length headers? Don’t want long tubes.

Haven’t gotten a whole lot done the last 2 weeks, been waiting on parts and busy elsewhere, but did get the accessories mounted, intake on and new trans dipstick mounted. Wiring harness is back from being reworked and it’s super clean and well done. Pretty much all of my parts are here for fuel system, trans lines and power steering. Going to knock out as much as I can this weekend. Still rolling with the goal of driving it by the end of the month.

I have a set of Doug thorley tri y's. If on a budget you can use the stock manifolds, just cut the flange and rotate it.

F body headers hug the block well.
Looking at a set of mid length block hugger headers on eBay. Will post up the link this weekend.

Got most of the fuel system built over the weekend, broke an AN fitting which is why it’s not totally installed, waiting on a replacement in the mail. My first time using these and it went fairly smooth for the most part. We will see whether or not they leak. Running an 87 tank and sender with a walbro 255.

Lines are ptfe lined and from Hot Rod Fuel Hose along with the fittings. Also got my trans cooler lines mostly assembled, just need to get the front clip back on so I can mount the rad and cut them to length.

Power steering is all hooked up and ready to go, running the stock 74 return line and the pressure hose from the LS with an o ring to inverted flair adapter. Drilled and tapped a 1/8 npt hole in the water pump and installed a fitting for the steam vent.

Lastly, modified the factory shifter slightly and it works down to 3rd gear but no lower, so it’s good for now but I will probably work with it some more later.

Let’s see, have gotten a few things done since I last updated. Driveshafts are made and I will pick them up tomorrow morning, fuel system is all hooked up from tank to intake, just need to permanently mount the filter and install my rubber clamps along the frame to hold the lines. Started putting the wiring harness on and it’s fitting well and almost all on, headers came in and fit and look great. Installed some eBay block off plates for egr and evap purge canister.

Wanted to crank it and possibly test drive it this weekend until tonight when I yanked the transfer case out to reseal the case halves and found one of the front output thrust bearings and a thrust washer are busted.

Everything else in the case looks good so I have ordered replacements and hope I will be able to get away with it.

So looks like this weekend it should be “done” except for the transfer case. Got to put the front clip back on, finish the wiring, hook up the cooling system, finish trans lines and mount the PCM, fuseblock and airbox. And as soon as those parts for the t case come in I should be able to throw it back together and drive it. Exhaust is the last thing that will need to be done. Debating whether to go on and have a full system built or make a y pipe myself and just connect it to the stock exhaust to get by for awhile. Been draining the bank account the last few weeks.
