battery is fine now, but won't start-URGENT TRUCK HELP

Well I pulled the fuel filter to see if it was blocking the fuel but it didn't seem to change anything. Also played with the electric choke a bit and it still didn't seem to help.

The battery is low on charge so that doesn't seem to help anything.

I still don't get why it sounds like the fuel is bubbling or flowing back into the tank? Is it suposed to do that if it doesn't start? I have never heard it until the engine stopped running.

I woould pull the carb and mess with it in the garage, but I still don't understand WHY it will start sometimes and run, but other times like lately it won't even turn on then stall...

It has sat for a couple years outside, yes. It has been run and driven a bit though.

I have an almost brand new tank that I am going to swap in once it's in the garage...

I just want this thing to run :(

EDIT:
I searched and all I found was ways to clean the tank. Nothing that would give me hints/clues as if it is rusted or not... :confused:

How is it you just happen to have a replacement tank?

I used to also have a 84 blazer but took it apart and junked it. When it was running the tank leaked so my dad bought a new tank and we put it in. It only has maybe...1 mile on the tank. It was never driven on the street or anything with it.

So now I just have the tank in the back of the jimmy behind the seat...

Considering the exposure over the seasons, you may be trying to burn water. Normally, you'd want to use a gas stabilizer and maybe an octane additive, check float bowl, filter(s) etc.
So the recommendation is to use the procedure you found to clean the new one, and install it and in the process check all of those systems; guage float, wiring, tank straps and cushions, hoses, etc.
Do that and you will at least know that system is in good order. You need to check-off the unknowns, otherwise you'll burn-out.:D
 
Alright I guess I will have to break down and lay in the wet gravel for one last time to swap it out. At my old house all I had was a carport or sand/dirt/gravel.

Rig up a hose to your pump. secure it high up or get someone to hold it. Fit a dummy tank to it (make one) or just put a funnel in the top of the hose. stick some gas in it and see if it'll fire easily if you don't want to swap the tank out just yet.
 
I don't have any hoses laying around that will work for it. I mind as well just take the tank out I guess.

I attempted to take the tank out. The 4 bolts that hold the bumper on the frame also hold this homemade reciever thing for a hitch that the P.O. put on. I broke one bolt, and the 3 others are spinning with the nut. It looks like a tight fit into the hold to fit a wrench. Anyone know what size it is? Or any hints/tips on taking the tank out?
 
Almost 2 months later and I still haven't made any progress.

I'm thinking about fixing the front axle (brake calipers seized) then towing it to a shop to fix it. I am over my head trying to get this to start. :(
