howdy yall i plan on comin up from tx for my first moab trip. tell me all oh wise ones ...

You will have an awesome time. I went last in 03 and for various reasons haven't been able to make it back. I'm going this year come hell or high water.

There is something there for every person, and every rig. Stock to wild...

My drive is 1175 miles each way. We'll be camping at the slickrock if everything works out.

One thing to remember is Moab is a pretty normal town, grocery stores lots of restaurants all those things that you need, the auto parts stores can get stuff usually next day. First time I went years ago (not to blazer bash) we brought alot of food etc, never doing that again, if I want a steak that night I just run down to the city market and get one. Or go to a local eatery.

Get one of the Moab guide books wealth of knowledge in them.

It is a tourist town so prices are a bit higher than elsewhere

Your truck is pretty solid it looks like so you will be fine on all but the hardest trails, might want to think about a set of rock sliders depending on what trails you are going to run.

the only thing is bring all the stuff you think you will need for camping. no wal mart in this town so camping stuff can be expensive

coool thank yall. campin gear is too easy for me , used to to alot of work with boyscouts and venturing crews so it will be nice not having to bring campin gear for 20 kids. as far as rock slyders.. got em there on along with some beefy bumpers. still need to fix a hub and install winch,, fuel injection should be done by then. still havent decided on driving it or towing it.. is this blm land?

If it breaks, fix it and drive home. Really depends on how decent your rig is on the road though...some builds are not suited for any road.

I drove my K5 down and back in '03, 6.2 diesel screaming at 2700 rpm the whole way, 39.5" TSL's we could watch wearing down, no stereo. Not like you could hear one in there anyways...

I'll be driving down and back again.

Rene

given the choice I would tow. Although this is the first time I will be towing my rig down I have driven there probably 15 times, and drove home broke 4 times, sometimes broke bad. My drive is way shorter than yours. If you drive it leave some room in your budget or on a credit card for a semi major repair to get you home.

Like I said if you have a tow rig and the choice to tow, I would tow too. If you don't plenty of guys like me will be willing to help you work on your junk to get home

All I can say is you are going to have a Blast and a Long Drive lol IT will be a great time though. You'll meet the Greatest guys aroung. You'll Eat some of the Best Food around, If thats wat you like then there will be some of the best drinks around too. Moab is an AWESOME Place.

Over all Prep yourself for a good time. What about your Rig tell us about it and you. C-ya there

I carry a little steel and stainless. I hear Osama is living in a desert in some hills somewhere. You never know.

yes i like to drive it when i can , usually have to.. i think before i take it any kinda distance again it will either get an od trans or bigger tires to get those rpm's down on the highway.

as far as carry, i checked and my tx chl is good tho whole trip , but was wanderin about open carry . i lost a bunch of weight in iraq and its exponentially harder to conceal carry in summer cloths now. does anyone know where i woud be able to get some more info on the subject?

Utah you can open carry all you want and you can carry loaded in your truck, as far as I know but I'm not a lawyer

sweet, as u can imagine im used to carrying open lol but thats good because im still not sure whether camping/hotel or headin to town for chow.. alot of that kinda depends on who and how many i bring. i always like to camp tho.

so slick rock? it that where everyones meeting for this thing er....

Most people who camp for Blazer Bash do so at Slickrock Campground. They offer campsites, or cabins; showers & restrooms. There's many other campgrounds in Moab, and there's camping (w/o services) outside of town.

Popular motels are Motel 6 or Aarchway Inn, both close to Slickrock. Slickrock, or the parking lot of Motel 6 used to be popular after-trails hangouts, although Motel 6 has fallen a bit out of fashion in the last few years - I've become too old for this, and I plan to stay in town - walking distance to Zax... Slickrock is the place to cruise after a trail run, hang out, meet people - if it doesn't rain, that is.

Hwy 191 is the north-south axis of Moab; Slickrock/Motel 6/Aarchway are on the north side of town. Just about everything else can be found just off 191. Food/water/supplies/etc - City Market; fuel, of course; for vehicle parts, Carquest is usually pretty good; they can get stuff overnight and have it available next day at 7am. Moab 4x4 Outpost on the south side of town can help with bigger problems if needed. Most gas stations offer some 'food' - the largely synthetic sammiches of Mavericks come to mind. Plenty of restaurants; notables (to me) are the Brewery, and Zax - a pizza outfit that offers an all-you-can-eat deal. There's plenty more, of course, for every taste.

Zax e.g. also has a bar area, but after more than a dozen trips I'm still having trouble to comprehend Utah alcohol purchase laws. I'm sure the UT guys can offer more guidance on that aspect. UT is strict re DWI.

Trailheads are up to 15 miles from town - I think that's about the distance from town to the turnoff from 191 to AreaBFE, TipToe, and Behind the Rocks; everything else is closer. A note of caution: Moab may appear as an offroad park, but it's a big one. Trails are long (Golden Spike is 20 miles of trail, not counting the miles to get there and back...), and there is for the most part no easy way out in case misfortune happens. You're gonna be in some canyon, up on some rim, where you can't just cut out in the middle of the day - you either have to complete the trail, or turn back the way you came in. It's a good idea to start each day well stocked with fuel, food, water, etc.
