bb '10 first timer and for moab

I think everyone pretty much covered it. IMO the most important thing is to make sure your truck is reliable and ready to run a trail all day. Don't worry so much about getting the next best mod done right before the event because there are trails to challenge all levels of vehicle build level.

You can even take it too far like I did in '08 and I tried to get hydro-assist done a month before BB08 and didn't get it done so I had to borrow a K5. :doah: After that I have a 60 day rule of no new mods 60 days before the event. Instead I just make sure everything is in good working order.

Just a little tidbit in reference to some of the pictures:
Driving up a tree, or driving over vegetation are big no-no's in Moab. Same for getting off-trail. This is not open area; 'wheeling is restricted to existing trails, and the BLM keep close eyes on that.

Even when you're on foot (stretch legs, restroom break, etc.) you are supposed to watch where you step; a lot of the ground is covered by cryptobiotic crust, a sensitive and protected formation of 'living soil' that is essential in the area to prevent erosion.

From what I understand, the BLM check the popular trails on a regular basis. And since we depend on the BLM for getting the permit, we need to make sure everybody knows the rules and sticks to them.

Best to stick to the rocks - in the truck as well as on foot.

Not that you'd ever find a tree like that on a Moab trail, at least not that I recall seeing.

But we definitely have to be on our best behavior. We have to procur a permit in order to have the event which means we are on their radar and they check to see if we have abused the trails. I also know the locals keep an eye on events like ours, and I'm talking about the local 4x4 hobbyists not just the enviros. Last year I had a lengthy conversation with local Jeep tour guide, Dan Mick. He was already fully aware of our event being there and of course he had to tell me about all of the fullsize Chevy's he'd seen around the trails in the area doing stuff they shouldn't. Although he also assured me he understood they probably weren't with us. I think it was more of a heads up to let me know they were watching.

That doesn't mean we can't and won't have fun. It just means we have to do it responsibily.

THAT'S what I love about the group of people attending Blazer Bash every year. Everyone is always respectful of the trails and we've never had a problem. I think everyone understands and respects the opportunity we have to enjoy the trails around Moab. There aren't many places like it left in the US and that number is only decreasing.

You think Dan Mick would let us go on his (new?) Golden Spike shortcut? :D

I got the same story from him aka "Mickey's hot tub inventor"

Seems the truck was there before we got there last year, but it was a full size Chevy

As far as I've been told, Dan Mick singlehandedly invented 4-wheeling in Moab :D. So he's just out there watching out for his trails.

OK JUST EMAILD utah dps ,i can always cc..

as far as stayin on the trails , no worrys . ive never been there and will always follow sombody. and most places to wheel request drivers stick to the trail and always honor house rules. anywhere i wheel or camp is always cleaner and more trash free when i leave then when i get there.. the tree was on private property.

i still want to drive but will probobly tow for obvious benifits. i still want to camp but i think im losing and going to indoor camp lol
as far as new mods, im taking alot of time off coming back from the sand and will have plenty of time to make sure its trailready.. im still real exited and im not even home yet lol

A good option between a hotel and camping is to rent a cabin. We've stayed in cabins at Moab Rim RV Campark, and they are nice but not as expensive as hotel. It had a kitchenette, microwave, mini-fridge, shower, AC, bunk beds, and a queen. They also had less expensive camping cabins, but I don't remember what they are equipped with. I know Slickrock has cabins. Most of the RV parks do.

Stay safe because we all look forward to meeting you in Moab.

And thank you for your service!

yp, ive been lookin into campin/cabins after seein how much is available im not in a big hurry until at least registration lol. but slickrock sounds nice water/elec/pple. , i know this is probobly a big mistake asking being how far north moab is.. any good mexican food?

Depends on your taste - I've been a few times to a place that calls itself 'Fiesta Mexicana' (202 S. Main) , and I thought it was good. Not sure whether I'd call it 'authentic Mexican', but for sure better than your average Tex/Mex joint, and they have quite a diverse menu. They sure tried to talk a lot of Spanish to me; if that's their thing to project authenticity, it didn't work with me - I'm from the wrong country/continent.
There's another outfit a little further north where I wasn't much impressed...

For reference: City Market is 425 S. Main; CarQuest is 356 S. Main; Zax is 96 S. Main; Motel 6 is 1089 N. Main; Slickrock is 1301 N. Main.

...and no, I don't get kickbacks from the Moab Chamber of Commerce :D

this too will be my fist time in moab. i'm pretty excited. i would assume to at least bring your own beer unless you want to drink 3.2 beer all weekend:dunno:.

YES and LOTS of H2O make sure you are drinking lots of water. and just to through it out there For all of us the is NO drinking on the trail... Can't wait to see all the new faces. And the OLD ones lol. Seems like lots of firsttimers coming should be awesome

water is a given, i live in a desert and water is always on the list.

It's been done before...

The way I'm looking at this is that I'm going to be in Moab for just a few days of the year, and I'll try to make the most of the opportunities that are specific to Moab - like 'wheeling on slickrock trails. So to me, all the other things that are not specific to Moab, and that I can get year-round elsewhere, are secondary for those few precious days....

If you're staying at Slickrock there is always something going on every night. A lot of people hang out there, BYOB if you don't want the water they sell in Utah.

byob sounds good, when i stay at state parks in texas i usually get a spot with rv hookups and then just camp lol does anyone think that will work well at slickrock?

oh and i cant even imagine the total amount of water ive drinken over here

Definitely :D

Also, the Moab brewery has their own special liquor license so they aren't restricted by the 3.2 law ;) Tasty food too!

I should say that for most of of my Moab / Blazer Bash trips (the exception being last year at BB when I did all the easy trails...), the issue was not '...well, which restaurant are we going to choose?...' - it was more like '...who the hell is still open at that late hour, where are we going to get something/anything to eat..?' :D

The best one was 2 years ago when we came in late from Pritchett on Saturday nite, tired as is, no adrenaline left (I was so happy I survived with only a broken 10-bolt stub, and a dented fender/door...), then wasted some more time BS-ing in the parking lot at Aarchway, went on to check out Zax, the Rio, and whatnot w/o success, got to Denny's (last resort...) around midnight, only to be told by the manager that they couldn't seat us (despite open tables) because they were short on servers. While we wait  (it was Dave, me, and another guy I can't remember...), there comes in this group (tribe?) of women with face paint/makeup/feathers in their hair - sure looked liked they came from some art performance (Mozart?) ... it was fairly weird... but memorable, nevertheless. :D

I almost fell asleep while we were waiting for our table.

Best burger I ever had at Denny's; period.

In all fairness, I should point out that we were not the last ones to come out of Pritchett that night. After all, t'was the year of the famous 7-wheeler...
