BB17 Ham operators

After doing some research and checking the Utah band plan here are the frequencies I'm thinking:

70cm 446.500
2m 147.540

I'm also going to see if I can program 150.965 that @Babaganoosh mentioned.

I don't know if we'll need rhe repeater, but here are the frequencies for the local repeater: 146.900 receiving on your radio, 146.300 transmit. So it's -0.6mhz offset. PL tone is 88.5.

The frequencies above are subject to change if we find traffic/conflict issues.
 
We run on either 153.230, or 150.950 or weatherman if it doesn't have a lot of traffic.
I have both a CB and race radio in the buggy.
 
I come here to avoid the real world, so, muslin or Muslim, or muslum... I don't want to hear about any of that.

Now, tell me about radio frequencies. That's what I want to know.

Were I to buy an entry level handheld radio at 5W or less that could tune into these frequencies to monitor/participate, which one would you recommend?

Baofeng UV-5R is the most common and can be had on Amazon for $35. You should also get the programming cable and download the software Chirp. I will try to remember my cable and @r3dd0g also has programming ability.

Program all the GMRS frequencies as I have a license for that and since we're all one big family we can use it together.

Also program the FRS frequencies as those are the ones the blister pack Walmart radios use - anyone can use them. There are power output restrictions for those channels but they have upped those numbers just this year.

You could also add MURS channels. Those frequencies are close to what the "race radios" use.

Anyone can listen on the Ham frequencies, just can't transmit without a license.

With Chirp software you can find existing files that will have all the frequencies I listed plus NOAA frequencies. You could add some of the others mentioned in the thread.

Back to the radio, I have a Baofeng UV82HP because it has more output power but it runs $65.

I will have an extra one of those UV82hp with me plus 2 cheap handhelds that only work on the GMRS channels, they were $22 for the pair.
 
Once you find the Chirp instructions its pretty easy. Almost seems too easy like you're missing something.
 
If someone had a laptop with chirp we could all just plug in and flash the radios..thats another option
 
Yes, I will have my laptop too with a Baofeng cord. I hope to have the file ready this evening. It will be a CSV file so it can be imported into various radio types.
 
Here' what I'm programming my radio with. Hoping channel 1 will work but we can use 2 or 3 if needed.

The little cheap handhelds I have to share only work on the GMRS channels so they will operate on channel 3 on this list. My radio is dual band so I'll have it tuned to channel 1 and 3.
