Beag's 67 Chevelle. Supercharged Summer

Definitely going to make some good progress this weekend. Not sure what I have that's picture worthy.
Maybe Dean can just shoot down here to help me for the weekend.
Since shop fridge quit any beer would just have to be drank before the box gets warm.
Any takers?

Ice? What is this.... Your first time or are you getting old Deaner? Maybe we can make a sub forum where all the old guys can hang out and talk about the weather. Their might be a Dave or 2, maybe an Andrew that could join you? :haha::rotfl:

Anyways. Last night I was doing some procrastination drinking with redemption whiskey and cleaning on the frame some I noticed that my engine mounts were missing nuts in the front crossmembers. Was enjoying myself until I realized I actually had to do some work....damn it.....
So I had to get my cherry picker out and get my engine plate And lift the engine up so I could toss in a 6 fresh grade 8s with lock washers and nuts.
Probably couldn't have done it without the grade 8s and just tossed some nuts back on. But I figured just get it done.
I wonder if the vibration from the solid engine mounts made the nuts back off?

Someone remind me when I do the frame to weld those nuts to the backside of that crossmember. Good grief. I Only dropped the nut 14 million times and it would roll into the front crossmember everytime where my fingers wouldn't fit.

So on the 9 millionth time I had to fish or lock washer out of the front crossmember I looked in it with my light and see something weird. I couldn't make it out. But it wasn't the nut, or washer I was after, so who cares.
So after the 12 millionth time I was "fishing" my nut out I decided to see what that weird object was. So i took my magnet to see and found this.

Not necessarily the weirdest thing I ever found in a car, but the location. Dead center in boxed crossmember.
Super weird.

We found a bird nest with live baby's in it in a hole in the sub frame of my kids GFs car.
We were doing the exhaust on her daily driver grand prix and heard chirping.

I got a old K car wagon for field beating and then eventually a derby car. It had Mercury rolling around in the back.
That was probably my best.
My buddy was like "what's that silver ball?"
"Oh, just a little liquid metal, that's poisonous, don't worry about it now, let's go Baja across that field". Lol.

1 step forward, 3 steps back. Turns out when things are done right on this car it fights you.
I decided my course of action today would be to button up the headers. The stainless ones have just been sitting in the engine bay. So I popped in some remflex gaskets I had bought.
Put in my locking stage 8 bolts with the locking tabs and the c clips. Even put the flex pipe on the collector.
Then I noticed that I forgot the motor mount bolts. No big deal, right?
I had pulled out a couple of 7/16 grade 5s. But the holes are for a 1/2 in bolts. Got a couple of them gold bolts from the bin and put one in the passenger side and then went to driver side.
Just looking at it I could see that the bolt holes didn't line up. I spent the next 5 hours Jacking around with the bolts, and mounts. Ended up completely pulling out both headers.
Right now it's sitting with both headers off. And no mounts done.
So basically from what I can tell someone left the mounts loose and used smaller engine bolts to let it have some play to make everything work.
So when I tightened up the lower engine mounts yesterday I screwed up the would be alignment.
So I'm officially father behind then I was yesterday. Guess I did a few other things, but who cares.

Technically you are ahead because you would be finding the problem down the road, now you know

Well that sure is a positive way to spin it.
I suppose so, but it doesn't change my frustration of 5 hours of lifting the engine, moving, poking, prying, letting it back down, bolting and unbolting.

Oh believe me I know.
I spent weeks getting my suburban diesel to get it running and I neglected a little thing, glow plugs, which led to them swelling and I had to pull the heads off and confirmed it was a good rebuild, so now I am putting it back together.
I know it ran and I saw it was clean so it was a progress.
:dunno:

@fastazz81, Steve can you take a picture of your wiper motor mounting.
When I bought the car the wiper motor was MIA. I bought a new one but it seems to be missing some rubber bushings. I have an idea how it goes but I can't seem to find a good close up picture on the internet.

Today's progress was little. Was snowing. Shop was chilly. General frustration with yesterday. Didn't feel it.
Engine mounts. I said screw it. I unbolted the lower mounts and said I'll mess with it later. Spent the rest of my time getting steering linkage in order and ready for install. Cleaning/organization of the shop to get ready for the week.

Yeah I hear you, today by 11am it was too hot to work until 6pm.
I started working at 6pm and just finished at 9pm when it got too dark. :pimp:
