Beag's 67 Chevelle. Supercharged Summer

All good! I’m just happy I poked Brian enough to give us pics and updates! :waytogo:

Not quite sure that a site that's mostly about climbing over rocks is the best place to talk about a car driving around cones?:dunno::thinking::doah:

I'm also sure that taking out a rear end out and tossing tractor paint on it is not the most riveting stuff.

I kinda had found that build threads weren't really my thing. I find it massively inconvenient to take pictures while I'm in the groove of working. I hadn't planned on updating it. But if you get some sort of enjoyment then I suppose I'll continue.
Luckily it's going to get lots more interesting very soon.

So anyways, I am trying to get caught up to real time updates but I'm still behind.
I got the rear end back in my garage and got some new axle seals in. Then I cleaned up the ends of the axles with some elbow grease and paint and slid them back in. Tossed in a new center pin in. Stupid center pin did not slide in easily. Not sure what the deal with that was, but I got it in, so now I don't care.

Once done I got a shiny diff cover and bolted it down. I wanted one of those fancy studded covers but I just couldn't spend 140 bucks for a 10 bolt I will be changing. So its a $50 bling bling cover from egay. I mostly just wanted one with fins.

I cleaned out the rear end real good and dumped some fresh Mobile 1 in.
After that I got the drum backing plates on with some fresh grade 8's. I put some on red loctite and some nylock nuts. After that I was able to start mocking up the disks. You have to center the caliper on the disk. I didn't tighten anything down or finalize anything because I knew they would have to come back off.

Also slid on the new top control arm bushings. I was missing part of my tool to install them so I made a call and they overnighted the rest of the tool for me.

While this was going on I was waiting for a stainless steel brake line set.
There is a company called "the right stuff" that sells a kit that designed for 4 wheel willwood disc brake with a willwood master cylinder and adjustable proportioning valve. Since my issue was time. It seemed like a no brainier. (Since power tour is pushed not as big of a deal)
IMG_20200425_145041297.jpg
That showed up and I got to work putting brake lines on. I cleaned up the T fitting and bracket for the top of the axle.

Then I ran into my first problem.
The sway bar mounts were designed to sit at a 26 inch center and the brake line didn't account for that. For a stock replacement these lines are super nice and clean. IMG_20200428_153419458.jpg
I want to use that factory clip so I was going to have to unbend them and re-bend them. Generally speaking I feel I'm pretty good at this type of work, but I definitely wouldn't recommend rebending brake line for the average guy.
Got them rebent with my favorite little bender. ( after and before pictures)IMG_20200425_160423427.jpg

IMG_20200428_152014487.jpg

The next problem was that the line terminates to go into a flexible line for the disc brakes. When it terminates they use an inverted flare to -3 an flex line adapter.
I'm not sure what your supposed to do here. It seems pretty stupid to me to leave it lay on the axle to move and rub?
So I decided I definitely didn't care for that so I made a couple of brackets and welded them on the tube.

Got my secretly mixed tractor paint out again and repainted it and got them both installed.

Then I was able to get everything tightened down for final install on that stuff.

Disregard that bracket on the axle with the airbag logo....

Air ride would be sweet!
I looked into it very closely. But I decided I wanted what I deemed to be the best.
Ridetech has done a great job developing air ride and I firmly believe they probably have the best system available. But I think I'll save that for the c10.
You already know what's coming anyway...

Custom springs from ORD that all the cool kids are running right?

I think most of the people on here have interest in more than just wheeling and building off road rigs , hence the other rides section. And I think most appreciate the effort put into building a car or truck , keep posting. I also may be a little biased.

I do agree with that. I mean the generally speaking alot of guys are here just for blazer tech, rock crawling, etc.

This will actually be my last update for a while. I moved into a phase or cleaning up the car and doing some non note worthy stuff. The last few days I have been cleaning up the old exhaust hangers, literally cleaning dirt and gunk from the engine bay and doing some things like changing the oil. Basically just getting a bunch of low hanging fruit off my plate.
I took some pictures here and there but putting new wipers on the car is less impressive then tractor paint. :haha:

I totally agree that a lot of people come here for the truck tech, but I think just about every member that is on here and posting everyday has that other build or is interested in more than just the tech, not trying to start a argument or anything, just saying more people are reading this and interested than you think, just my opinion now more pics.
Of the Chevelle.

So since I let the cat out of the bag so to speak about what I chose suspension wise. I went with the full coilovers set up from ridetech.
I looked at alot of stuff and called a ton of manufacturers over the last year.
With my current job I have a fair amount of down time.
I spent alot of this time on the phone with companies like ridetech, speedtech, UMI, Detroit speed, hotchkis, etc. Plus a ton of time looking over on lateral g net, pro touring and even team chevelle.
I also found some a-bodys locally to check out stuff in person last year. Being the price of the kit, I wanted to make sure I got it right.
IMG_20200421_165337725.jpg
So as I stated before my goal for phase one was to have basically a 100% bolt one stock style suspension.
There are several things I chose not to upgrade out of the gate. One being spring rate and shocks. The second being the disk brake size. I choose smaller brakes and 4 piston rears vs 6.
These are upgrades I will do down the Rd.
Once I do the frame/chassis work is done. I'll scale the car and order custom springs with reservoir shocks.

Anyways. The rear coilover mount to the stock rear lower control arm mounts.
IMG_20200429_164947062.jpg

This part was bothering me. The lower control arm bolt as supplied by ridetech.
IMG_20200429_163836400.jpg
Notice the threads. Those are threads in the shear plane. SHAME on you ride tech. I expected more. I'll pickup a 4 inch long grade 8 the next time I'm at the farm store.

Anyways thats what I got. That's the deal.

One thing I will note is that I got a UMI (shock tower)? Brace the brace will go from the top of the both coilover mounts.
And a set on global west lower control arm braces. Those will go on the chassis to do some basic chassis upgrades. That all the chassis work I'll do this go around.
They both are toward the top off the picture of the stuff on the trunk.

Guess I'll go over some on my parts list to while I'm at it.

-Ridetech full coilovers kit.
-Global west control arm braces kit.
-Willwood 4 wheel disc brake kit, 6/4 piston front/rear.
-UMI Rear shock tower brace
-fast ez EFI
-tanks Inc EFI tank
-walbro 255 fuel pump
- 6an fuel line.
-summit billet fuel filter
-all new Moog steering- via ridetech
-summit stainless headers
-x pipe
-porter mufflers
-new finned valve covers/air cleaner k&n filter/ fuel pump block off plate
-msd hei tune up kit
-msd wires
-new wheels
-new tires (need to buy)
-all new fluids
-new wiper motor/wiper arms/wipers
-new battery cables.
-new radiator overflow tank
-stainless brake lines.
-Ebay diff cover
-line lock
-fire extinguisher/billet mount
-blue sea power distribution block

And that's all I can think of. I've been collecting parts for a year and I don't remember all the crap. A bunch of restoration kinda stuff I won't get into.
I had to lay the crap out just to get it out of the boxes to get organized. See for yourself.

I like the diversity! I think we all are here because we are grear heads. The only thing keeping me from building a car is money, time, and a spot to do it.
I can enjoy watching what others are building and dream!?

Keep posting Brian!
The non exciting stuff to you is still progress and cool. And it’s a good way to document what’s been done.

Not everyone is going to agree with your every decision... Fock em! Your car ...Right!

I'll see what I can do. As I mentioned I did a bunch of stuff that doesn't any net return via pictures. Maybe some engine stuff this weekend.
Today I didn't get much done. But I made some progress. Just limited. But I wrench everyday towards my goal.

That's why there is an "other rides" section. For people who love anything gearhead related and want to see it all. I don't want to have to be on several forums just to see some other badassery. I'm down for anything on here!

I think it all looks awesome....:saweet:

Why the extra money for the braided brake lines on the axle? The wilwood calipers don't move with pistons on both sides and you can change the pads without removing the caliper....I think you could move them just enough to change the rotor or axles seals too if needed. I just put solid lines all the way across and left one braided line to the axle housing.

It was just a general thought of mine. I'm surprised It got this much pushback. But even with that said. it's only a few guys. The same guys that like my postings or comment. I understand that lot of guys are multifaceted. I do. but it's not the same as a forum like pro-touring where EVERYONE is building towards the same goal.
Obviously the guys that are tuned in here are going to say to keep on keepin' on.
But I know that there are a fair amount of members that are not interested.
For what is worth. How many of you guys follow along on one build with more interest then other because it's a well known member?
A guy that has been around longer with more postings has more of a sense of friendship or camaraderie towards other members, your probably more likely to tune in.

If I see a posting about a new crew cab c30 build posted by Luke @Truckman4life , I'm lot more interested to see what Luke is up to then a new member. Because luke is someone that I've talking to on here and via text for years now.
Just the way it is. For me at least.
