Beag's 67 Chevelle. Supercharged Summer

Since this is 2020, and 2020 being what it is. I guess this is a a huge accomplishment. While I haven't posted anything all week, I have been battling all week with my wiper system.

Got my little part in and got it put together and there was a short in a wiring. Long story short. They work and it's another thing off the list. But man it was frustrating!

So I celebrated with the wiper blade song.

Then this morning. I fell into a 9 inch for 100 bucks. So what the hey.

It's 63" wheel to wheel so it won't work for this car. It will probably go under the c10.

What width do you need for your car?
60"

64-67 rear ends were 60 inches, while 68-72 cars were 61"

Car has a 1969 rear end in it now and it has tire clearance issues.

If anything I want a 58 inch rear end. If i am going to the trouble of narrowing it ( which I can do myself ) I would rather just custom order an housing and be done.
C10 width is 65 inches so it makes more sense to swap it under that.

Under a grand for the diff, with gears of your choice and Richmond posi

My Fury has an 8 3/4, and this option looks appealing for me too. To upgrade my rear with gears, LSD in a 489 case and add alloy axles etc will cost a ton more and I think the 9" is still stronger.

Really you would dump a 8 3/8 for a 9 inch? Is that worth it?
In my case I have a truck 12 bolt or a car 10 bolt.
A 9 inch is a Superior upgrade for either one of those.
But I'm not sure it worth it for the 8 3/4.

I guess it come down to cost.
I wasn't looking for this 9 inch. But for the price I won't complain. You can't even buy a replacement bare housing for that. And thats the way I look at this. I will spend for axles, gears and brakes. Probably build it for 700-800 bucks. Unless I like the gear set. The guy didn't know what they were.

For current drivetrain the 8 3/4 would be fine...but it will need all brakes, LSD, gears, shafts and upgraded center section. For that same money I can get a 9" from speedway, all brand new, maybe 2" narrower that will live behind V 2.0 under the hood. Even Ma Mopar recognized that the 8 3/4" has it's limits. The big block cars with an auto got the 8 3/4". The 4 speed cars got a Dana 60.

I'm not building for autocross, I am eventually aiming for an 8 second car though. As long as it stays auto a 9"will live with good parts in it.

Had one final brake line problem to work through.
Not saying this is the best way, but its the way I did it.

I had bought the inverted flare to -3AN adapter fittings and a brake line mounting tab.

I needed to shorten the main line under the car.
So to make that work I would have to the mounting tab adapter fitting to an inverted flare to -3An fitting. Like this. I mocked it up with a couple little lines for the pictures.

To me this seemed like a cobble job and I didn't like it.

So I got some -3 AN Bulkhead fittings.

I still wanted to use the bracket to isolate the connection.

But the problem is they wouldn't work with the mounting tab the hole is to big.

So l thought I might try to build a bushing. Well I need a lathe. So my attempt to build a bushing was a fail.
So I dug around my shop to see what i could find.
I finally came across a rubber bushing and some washers.

Only my dumb luck it fit the tab and -3AN fitting perfectly.

Tightened the bulkhead down. And I think we are set.

Seems to have worked out.
Someone might actually look at my car someday and think I know what the hell I'm doing.

List is getting shorter by the day.
I am super close for a test drive.

So whats a guy to do?

Well, do something thats not on the list and does nothing for drivability! Of course!

So I decided to tear all the rear trim off and paint!

Little sanding.

And Volia!

The SS cars had a blacked out panel.
Not trying to make it an SS. I just think the blacked out panel adds to the car. Breaks it up some.
I see no problem with using the best styling clues on your car. Its not original and im not trying to sell it for a premium, presenting it as an SS.

But some of the purists won't like it. Fu☆k'em !

I like the black tail panel, when I paint mine it will also be black . And f the purists. I think you should have as much fun as you can and enjoy your car.
That being said I wouldn’t butcher a 138 car that was original, but I also won’t pay the ridiculous price tag to get one so like you I’ll do what ever makes me giggle with my 136 car.

I definitely would want it like that too.

I actually like the 66 chevelle slightly better for the front and rear. But they seem to be Slightly higher priced to. I like them all. I want a 68/69 and a 70.
Oops off subject. Anyway when I paint this I might swap for the 66 taillights. They are cleaner looking.
When I paint it it will have a few body mods. None of thay ridiculous over the top pro touring crap. ( i like those cars- just not on this car) but i ll clean up a few things. Bumpers and trim, probably a different hood.

I like it, it looks good.
While you were painting/butt dialing, I actually got something productive done.
Fired up the old Javelin...first time since 85!!!
Ran for about 8 seconds. Down here, that's impressive.
I told you I was doing super important chevelle stuff.
Well any chevy stuff is more important and wannabe Chrysler stuff!
