BENDER stays in hibernation with me

I swear, just when I think I'm on a roll, I get a call from the exhaust guy and he says the heat riser doesn't fit. OMG

Yes I need the riser for smog lol. :( Edelbrock didn't make the headers right or something. They straight told me "Our bad" and figured it was cause my original y pipe and heat riser set up was for manifolds that mount above the spark plugs. (instead of below them) Edelbrock guy figured maybe an older heat riser would do the trick. Nope. Dammmmmmmmm Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!

So I went over an idea with the exhaust guy, using a spacer to put the riser lower in the truck, bending this and that, and just getting it done. Real nice guy, easy to work with. My original exhaust guy didn't even want the job, complaining about something. Freaking exhaust guys are hard to deal with, if it takes more than a couple minutes to do the job, they get all weird. This one is at least working out.

I feel better now, just had an ice cream drumstick. :)

What did I tell you about the edelbrock headers? Those things are POS and edelbrock totally doesnt support or back them up. Mine now has a leak from the exhaust collector flange gasket(donut gasket) that is leaking backwards only on part throttle or when in lockup. SOO ANNOYING!!:angry1: Not to mention the gasket (#6964) is totally the only one that will fit those headers (#65273 and 65272). Dirty rotten edelbrock mother fockers. I found a 2' round gasket will fit but have yet to get under there and fuss with it. Mine doesnt have the heat riser but the kid who smogged it before i had it got it done with this set up so i am hoping they dont say anything when i take it in. The SMOG guy says what matters is that all the stuff that in on the underhood decal is there and working. Mine is a 1986 K10 shortbed pickup with a 700r4 and 350 crate engine and all the factory crap on it. New cat and entire exhaust done.

yep, mine sounds like it's leaking from the same place at the same time. The truck only has about 160 miles on the engine/exhaust.

I replaced the head to header gasket about 3 times searching for it. Tried copper, paper and dead soft aluminum. None did anything to quiet it down. Got some graphite ones and it silenced it at the flange but its still leaking at where it connects to the rest of the exhaust. If i get it solved before you i'll get you part numbers and info. Complete bullshiz on edelbrock's part. I have been tempted to take them to SEMA (got a friend who gets me in every year) and throw them on the edelbrock table and make a stink in front of everybody. Bastages! LOL

I'll go with yeah. I can't believe they just up and said "our bad" when the heat riser didn't fit. If they clocked it differently, it may have fit. They told me use a heat riser from an older truck. LOL they are all the same. The guy that did the exhaust didn't like the design either, especially having to use that specific graphite gasket. They normally have a built in sleeve, but this one had the sleeve welded to the header. Urs is the same huh?

EDIT: I've got 220 on the motor :)

Went for a drive up to Azusa Canyon OHV. It's not open, currently under lots of water, but figured the drive up would be nice. Some pictures:

Hydro-generation, crazy stream of water shooting out from the bottom.

Used to be able to drive right up to the damn.

Bridge I used to drive and picnic under. Never seen the water level this high.

Blurry, but that is a road on the left for simitrucks and dredgers to get down to the bottom. Bout 20' under the water, I damn near hydrolocked my quad lol.

These are pictures of two dams by the way. Both are completely FULL. Like I said, never seen both so full, maybe the first, but never the second also.

You can't really tell, but there was a 4' wall I climbed up in 2wd to get to this spot :) . It was the first "wheeling" I've done in over a year. About 1/4 up the road, two ranger trucks were checking out suspicious cars. I stopped dicking around :)

thanks aszhole, damn dumpers, don't you realize they take this stuff on the second trash day of the week.

WOO!!!! Sweet man, how you likin the 400? Funny my trucks the same year, same tran, same t case, and im putting the same mild 400 in mine lol.

Hoping to have mine all ready to go in a month or so. Just waiting on the engine to be done....

lame updates
but I'm working full-time right now and that is WAY more important for paying rent, bills, and CC :doah:

Got 500 miles on the truck. So it's down getting some stuff done. I just ordered:
standard oil pump and pickup
Grant steering wheel (the one I have currently have is now 4 sale :) )
Oil filter remote mount kit
Fuel gauge (fried old Autometer one)
aluminum header gaskets (to replace Edelbrock paper ones)

Got my headers and Y pipe out being coated, should be back in the garage this week. The stuff from summit will round out my 500 miles "fixes". I can't get to the oil filter with the Y pipe being in the way, so the relocation kit is for that. I need to replace my oil pump, and with the Y pipe down it's a good time. I also got some neat heat shielding material I will put between the Y pipe and oil pan.

I'm also re-doing all the wiring behind the dash. I didn't like the way I first did everything. Now it's a little more organized, not beautiful but better. I also dropped a few bucks for a labeler. OMG why did I wait so long to buy one!!! So when I get time here and there I work on it, but no wiring in the dark:eek1:. One I get some full days, I'm hoping to have the DIY dash in by this weekend.

It also needs to pass smog in MAY. OMG this came up fast. I'll get all this done, get it smogged, and get golden. I pulled all the Autolite spark plugs out and found them stupid white. I replaced with some Delcos. (cause I thought a cheap throwaway plug would be better for break in) After smog, I'll get the carb dialed in better. I bought an O2 sensor and I'll try to get some reading with my multimeter.

Cool man! That dash looks pretty sick!! I should be gettin my new engine either late this week or next week, but the way its been going im not gonna get over excited lol.

yep, you can't get too excited. I waited months for mine since I had a lot to do on the truck anyway.

Check this out.

You will need to bone up on your carb tuning, or at least understand a little bit about it when you take it to a knowledgeable person. I'm running an O2 and reading it just like described at the bottom of the article. I haven't had a chance to do this though, but I have the parts :)

I have an edelbrock but I get what you mean, I bought a very good book on my carb, LOTS O PICTURES!!!:woot:

Major updates :D

I bought two bedliners from Orielly and I'm going to cover the floor with them. At 80 bucks a pop, it will work great. I already have the rear done and it's night and day quieter.

Replaced my M55HV pump with a standard volume select series pump.

Got some dead soft aluminum header gaskets and remote filter kit. The filter kit is needed because of my new y pipe, it makes oil changes impossible with the stock location.

I also got my Edelbrock headers and y pipe ceramic coated in black. I have talked with a local header manufacturer in the area a few times and the owner is a real cool guy. Has a few old drag cars and a couple land speed cars. BMR I think is the logo he uses. Anyway, he had an order going out to get coated and he was nice enough to let me throw my things in with his, so it ended up being cheaper for me. $160 for everything :woot:
