if these are your only options then the TRxus mt, assuming you are going to be driving to and from the hills.

Irok's are awesome. Keep em rotated and your alignment correct and they should last a decent while. My toe, caster, and camber are all way off, and I have got 25,000 out of my 36" radials, they probably got 5000 more in em.

I really liked my swamper tsl radials when I had them, they lasted me a long time too. Got over 40k out of them, actually thats a guess I bought them with 20k on them and I put about 20k on them.

I think the truxus mt would be a great choice.

if you're looking for more of a strictly off road tire (very little road use), i'd go with the good old tried and true tsl radial. hands down best all around aggressive tread design and the new radials ride surprisingly well on the road.

if you're looking for more of a good dd/ weekend warrior (mostly road w/ some weekend wheeling), i'd go more w/ the street biased MT. i really like the design of the trxus mt (siping and sidewall biters).

of course you can't beat the bfg mt and the new km2 looks like a huge improvement. i've had a few sets of the original design and i've never been stuck where i thought it was the tire's fault.

cooper stt is a really good all around mt too. and they're cheap. only available up to a 37" though. i had a set of coopers years ago. they rode great and lasted 40+k miles.

i wasn't looking to get away from the bfg's, but i just picked up a set of pro comp x terrains (the deal was too good to pass up!). i have to say they're a really good looking tire and i'm looking forward to using them. but they're not cheap.

the mickey thompson mtz is another good looking MT tire. very similar to the cooper stt because they're made by cooper (as is procomp). cooper and goodyear are the only 2 remaining U.S. made tires if that matters to you.

here's a good site w/ reviews of all the tires.

If money were no object I would say the BFG KM2's , but at around $600 each for 40's they are pricey.

How about the new (or old) Goodyear wrangler MT's, they are available up to (and above) 40" and sell for cheaper then the Bfg's.

I have heard alot of negative feed back on the IROK radials ( PM supersize75k5) as far as ride quality and wear.

A friendof mine has Mickey T 38" MTZ's on a 78 F350 with a big block, he has about 20k on them and loves them. They are still around 1/2 tread or better.

I had a set of 36 14.50 tsl radials on a 76 K5 I used to own, they were good tires, still loud on the road, and not much of a difference off road compared to a regular tsl.

Just my $.02 :D :p:

i would say the swamper ssr's have the best road manners while still providing an aggressive tread. while the ssr may leave more to be desired in deep mud, they seemed to excell in every other area, including winter weather. the m/t's are good too, but the ssrs are better offroad. ground hawgs will last the longest of your options. from what i hear, iroks aren't so good off the rocks.

I used to have the 35x14.5 SSR's. They were great at first, but in 9k miles they were at like half tread, rode like crap, had no wet weather traction, and were loud as hell. By 17k they were bald.

Now I have 38x15.5 TSL/R's and up until a month ago the truck was my DD. They have over 20k miles on them, closer to 25k, and I would still say they are over half tread. They are still quiet, ride is still pretty good and they have more wet weather traction than my SSR's ever did.

I would go with the TSL/R's if I were you. I looked into the ground hawgs, but read too much crap about how loud they were, how stiff they were in the mornings and how undersized they run.

I find it hard to believe that a tsl/r with zero tread siping would be better in your opinion than a ssr with abundant tread siping. with snow and winter weather being a factor, i'd say its hard to argue any siped tire's superiority in snow and wet weather conditions.

i ran 37 12.50 ssrs for about a year, D.D., 10k mileage through the winter and sold them a few months ago with at least 3/4 tread left. they were awesome in snow/ice/rain/slush. i did have my tires balanced by a reputable 4x4 shop, and every part on my front axle/steering/etc. is new. my experience with ssr's was positive to say the least.

Out of the tires posted the Truxus would be the best. Swamper SSR's are ok untill about 1/2 tread. I ran Goodyear MTR's for years and they do really well and the new MTR's work even better. The BFG MT's are ok and the new ones seem to do well too. Swamper radials are pretty decent too but lack on wet roads. Irok's, well no comment.

I found it hard to believe too. But new to new they were about even and after a little wear the SSR lost out....hard.

Toyos are a great road tire. They suck off road, at least the off roading I have done with them. Ran the 37 on a cherokee that I took to Moab. I did not like them off road. Now if you are running a ton on the road they are not a bad tire to look at just don't expect much from them off road. I have known several guys who have ran these and they pretty much thought the same as me. Great road tire. Only so so off road

I got 49k miles out of my tsl/R's, and just bought another set of them (37inch), at the price the larger tires go for, I stuck with them cause I know they will last me a long while.

The Toyos are a good tire on road, and seem to have decent wear/tread life, a few friends of mine have them, but they hate them in the mud/snow. Plus those pigs are heavy, IMO. I've never looked up their weight. I know my tsl weigh around 92lbs without a rim, and I picked up one of my buddies toyo that was also without a rim, and I swear it felt a good bit heavier.

Plus from what I have seen, Toyo is mighty proud of their tires ;)

Anything but the irok radials of the 39-41 variety.

I have hated mine from the second I drove on them, and happily liberate tread off them to speed up the process of needing new rubber.

It pisses me off that a bald, non balanced, chunked, cupped, dry rotted, chipped to hell rim, packed with mud, rocks and sand in it tire rode better than a new balanced radial:mad:

I will be trying to go back to another military tire if I can, if not the BFG KM2, good year with kevlar or a simple tsl will do.

The tire I really now is a 40 inch ltb, figure I am not driving on the road much and it should perform better than the irok off road. If I were you I would sipe any tire you choose.

TSL's are a decent tire but God forbid they ever see snow. Went wheeling in the mountains 2 weeks ago and even with 4wd those tirese are much happier going sideways than forwards on anything frozen. Goodyear MTR w Kevar best for all around. The half mud/half AT design gives a good "all around" and they are relatively cheap to comparably sized ones. just my .02.

seems like iroks are getting bad reviews, but my 39.5's drive really well. bought them used, so i cant say much for tread life concidering i've put all of 50 miles on them, but they ride nice on the road.

trxus are great in my opinion. Had them for 3 years on a dd and about 5k left. Would buy again.
