Best Tranny for all around use.

tis a matter of opinion... the consensus will probably be the 700r4 because of overdrive, excellent for street use... If you want a bullet proof auto tranny, the th400 is hard to beat. sm465 would be sweet, I would love to have a manual tranny in my truck.... but yeah its mostly opinnion, you should have made it a poll :wink1:

have you considered a 4l80e. there are companies out their making vacume shift module for these trans now for about $150. the 4l80e is a tubo 400 with an overdrive. I had some transmission sites pulled up that claimed the 4l80e trans was good for 4oo hp stock. If I ever get the chance to get one at a good price I believe that is what I am going with.
 
700R4

it has a good 1st gear and the overdrive makes all the difference on the road havin the overdrive you can run lower axle ratios and still dd it

if you are making a lot of power then the 4L80E is a good opiton and you can get it setup to work without a computer

but as far as the options you have in the poll then id go with the sm465 since none have overdrive you can go with a higher axle ratio for the street and have the low gear in the tranny make up for it on the trail
 
all the 1st gear in the world doesn't make the 700 as beat-the-snot-out-of-it tough as the TH400. :thumb:

I voted NV4500 cause it has a ubber low 1st plus overdrive. I also THINK that it is as strong as the SM465. No proof just what I think. Plus they use an internal slave cylinder on the newer ones->less stuff haning out to hangup on or break.

I like my 700r4 . Been DD for multiple years , been wheeled on OFTEN , driven to Moab and back . Either somone rebuilt it before I bought it , or I just have a well maintained tranny . Just have a nice sized cooler on it .

6.34:1 first, .73:1 5th, and totally bullet proof.

Its the SM465 first, 700r4 overdrive, and TH400 / SM465 in strength!

If you can shift a standard tranny, there is no other way to go as far as I am concerned!
