I managed to make it from Idabel, OK last year to Oklahoma City on a Sunday with no 3rd or 4th gear in a 700R4. Surprisingly, I still got a little better than 10 MPG.

toasted your bands, huh? that's how i lost 2nd and 4th in my 94 4l60e. of course, i also had a bunch more internal breakage and cracked my torque converter.
 
Well since I see we pulled this one back out of the grave let me ask you. What would it cost aprox. to rebuild a 700r4 (that I got for free) to be able to handle 400+ horse and same for torque. I want to stay with an auto so it is either the 4l80E or the 700R4. Yes i know it is the tougher one of the two But since I either have to rebuild the 700R4 or buy a 4L80E I wonder how cost efficient it would be. By the way does anybody have information for a vacuum mod for the 4L80E.
 
look at post 35 & then 47....you tell me how long before the th400 came out and the sm465, went back in...the 400 was good for awhile, then it gradually got weaker, then blew the front pump! i've been looking for nv4500, but not sure how to put my 205 behind it yet.

unrelated...i did a cam change a few months back, and put in timing gear drive....now my truck is gears everywhere, no chain of any sort, except the 1 in my ammo can:D
 
draggin old stuff out of the closet, eh?

no auto can be balls-to-the-walls tough as a stick-shift. there must be a reason all the sports cars have manuals, they rock! when the tranny craps out in my yukon, i just might put an nv4500 in there, make it a lot more fun to drive.:D
