Big Block question 4x4 high / Scott

That is the craziest thing I have ever seen......:haha:

Damn I hate when my membership expires and I can't view some pics.

Scott......It appears to be a 4 bolt main block that doesn't have the outer holes in the main caps drilled and tapped.....the inner bolts are there.....and it has 4 bolt caps.....the outer holes in the block are just not there...:dunno:

My 14015445 block is a 2 bolt...a Marine Mercruiser engine.

I think the last two 454s I had matched those casting numbers, both are two bolt. One I have now is out of an 86 dually. I was always told to get one from a truck, steel crank, bigger rod bolts, 4 bolt main, blah blah. I have never had a 4 bolt big block, and every big block that I've had was out of a truck.

It's been like that for 67k?? Seal it up and run it. Least if you decide to build the motor later on, just need to get the machining done, I guess 4 bolt caps can be expensive...

I'm starting to feel pretty lucky about my 4 bolt block.

Fwiw, mine was a cast crank, small rod motor. The steel crank, big rod motors are things of the muscle car age, I don't think those types of part were ever widely used in the light truck engines.

The only BBC's that got the "dimple rods" (7/16" rod bolts) where the LS6 and LS7 engines, all other BBC's use the same rods and the rod length is the same for ALL BBC's in factory form.
