Big problem, need help <--working on it ;)

okay, seems as if 4X4High is the only one willing to post. Is this a beat to death thread or did I offend everyone else around here?

Engines are my thing, i build them for a living. :thumb:

There are a couple members who live in Fresno who i'm sure would be willing to help you if needed.

the "smile" gaskets???

If the mystery gaskets made of rubber look like a smile, they go between the pan and timing cover on older engines..I thought the "one peice" gasket had them made right into it..don't know why they would put them in the box if you dont need them???...

Pretty sure he's talking about O-rings which are used for the oil cooler adapter.

B-I-N-G-O!

That's what they are, I'll snap a shot tomorrow though and let you all see.

As far as the help I do appreciate it and I may take some help one day but as stated before depending on the vehicle and such dropping the pan can be a bit more complicated than I had originally anticipated.
I'm sort of stubborn and seem to have to learn everything the hard way. If this non-sense keeps up and I can't figure it out I might ask but for now I've got a lot of fight left in me for this gasket!

Well guys I got home today after school (hooray! last day!) and I got to work. I crawled under the truck and decided to just tighten everything up and to my surprise the drill didn't get things very tight because I was so worried about over-tightening them I set it too loose.
I got in there w/ an extension and my sockets and went to town, I tightened everything up just until I saw the pan pull into the block then gave them one last 1/2 turn. To my surprise that's basically all it was!

I ran it around for about 10 minutes in the neighborhood and when I got home I hopped the curb and drove straight onto the grass, I hopped out and jumped under the truck to check it while the pressure was still high and it wasn't leaking from the pan.

The only spot that I saw any oil dripping from was from the small hole in the bottom of the torque converter cover. I think it was from overfilling the oil pan though. Even so it was about one small drop every 45 seconds for about 10 minutes then it stopped. I'll keep an eye on it but I'd say this project is DONE!

Good news on getting it fixed.
Could the oil drip you saw be due to a leaking rear main?

Maybe, when the rear main goes does it spill into the torque converter cover?
Because what I saw wasn't dripping down the side of anything and falling, it was actually coming out of the torque converter cover's hole in the bottom.

hmm, I don't really feel like tearing it all apart again since it's a slow drip. I'll just get my new dip stick and keep an eye on things.

I was telling my dad that this summer (did I mention I'm out of school, man it's great!) when I do my 14ff in the rear and d44 in the front I won't be running so I'll probably do the rear main while it's down.

Oh, also some good news...my mom has agreed to let me take over the side of the house in the front. We have a patch of grass on our side of the sidewalk and she said that she was ok with me cementing it over and keeping my truck there "since this seems to be something I'm in for the long haul". ;)
