blanket attached under hood

They show at gmpartsdrect.com for $82.00. Shipped only to local fedex hub for pickup.
Need to see if my buddy that has a body shop can get me one or order it from them.

My buddy ordered me one today from GM for $93

Thanks guys, 1 more thing off my list.
Got a part number for that? Getting the plastic pin thingies from them too?

Doesn't the sun get hot on your bald head? Also whats that got to do with Jimmies? If you touch it more than once your playing! :o
1st question: Yes it does, and I have some hair, it's just very short.
2nd question: I learned that talking about my Jimmy with friends brought on the same reaction, so I talked about my Blazer instead. I figured in a group of motorheads dedicated to these rides I might get away with it, guess not:rolleyes: et your mind out of the gutter old man!;):haha:

And before you ask Hood Insulation Retainer GM 3977775

I think there are 24 in all. I can count them if I need to for you.

I would be interested in seeing what the GM part number for the blanket looks like. Would some one chare a pick of 12306178

My two diesel trucks have them still--the '82 K2500 and the '85 Burb...but as for them being a "fire blanket",the one on my '82 would probably burn like rocket fuel if I ever had an engine fire--its black and gooey ,soaked with years of oil and diesel accumulations....my trucks sound like backhoes with or without them,I dont think they quiet them down much..probably does more to prolong paint life on the hood than anything, but the clear coat on my burb is looking like it has leprosy..:(

I notice much less "diesel rattle" in The Blazer than I do Big Ugly. The Blazer has the blanket.

But your Blazer has all kinds of other insulation that the military does not. I doubt the hood blanket makes much of a difference compared to what is inside the cab... or should I say what isnt inside the cab.

in the event of an engine fire, the plastic things would melt and the blanket would fall on the engine smothering the fire.

By the time those plastic things melt enough to have the blanket come down, I would think that there would way to much fire and heat for the blanket to do any good.

40 Lbs. That has to be a misprint. I ripped mine out win it was falling off, and it did not feal like 40 Lbs. I could be wrong but that does not sound right.

Seems pretty heavy to me too.

Mine are all gone in my trucks. I didnt take one out though... got my trucks that way.

It seems like the hood would be kind of hard to let up if the blanket alone weighed 40 lbs. How much does the hood itself weigh? I've only had a hood off one time and it didn't hardly feel like 40 lbs. Of course there were two of us holding it and it was a long time ago. I don't remember if it had the blanket or not.
