Blazer Bash 2012 OFFICIAL trail runs - trail leader volunteers needed

Don't overdo it. A Golden Spike trip is 40 miles roundtrip from town. Figure 1 gallon per hour on the trail, and a full tank ought to be plenty. When I ran it in April, I used 8 gallons...
Weight is one of the biggest detractors of 4WD performance. You might argue that on a 6000lb truck, it won't matter anymore. Still, no need to carry extra stuff you won't need.

x2, its not a crazy outback trail that if something really goes wrong you will be stranded. There will be a group running crack and back. So we will all be in the same general vicinity. If the need arises just give us a shout, cb or cell phones work up there most if not all of the way.

What CB channel are we all gonna run on? Channel 40 sounds good to me?

2Insane This must be your first BB

Most of this will be gone over either at the BBQ or on the day of. Don't get to excited.:thumb:

FYI There isn't much on the trifecta run that is more than an hour from town for me. We've run parts in a few times.

10-4!

Usually run down low like on ch 4 or 8, people that don't have a tuned in cb antenna get better reception. Usually gets talked about at meeting morning of run.

yes you have

I've run the Trifecta in <3 hours with a small group, but for some reason it's cursed for the BBash guys. Last year I helped haul the busted rhino and mail order bride out, then headed back in to get the last few guys off the trail. We finally made it back to camp around 8pm if I remember correctly.

Extra fuel isn't necessary. A welder would be a nice thing to have in an emergency, spare parts, fluids etc. If you can get someone up on the rim you can make cell phone calls for help.

I can not wait to go! Been watching videos like a mad man! I think it's always better to be safe then sorry.

As far as it being cursed... Lol! It's what? A 40 mile trail? That's kind of a long trail! It does not surprise me that people could break down on it. Some of those obstacles could get tricky if not hit right, according to the videos I've watched.

I think if we hit the trailhead early and take it slow and smart, we should be ok:)

Eric said The Trifecta is an all day trail. We would like to start early in the morning. Bring extra parts, tools, fluids, food and lots of water. Make sure your full of fuel or gas before you leave town. A spare gas can would not be a bad idea. Try and be well prepared for a long run. This is the rig we will be traveling in...

Meet at the Poison Spider trailhead Saturday September 8th around 7am.
I appreciate the enthusiasm on yours and Eric's part. :D It's needed for a run on the 'fecta.

Definitely agree with an early start. Based on feedback from previous years, 8AM seems to be the general consensus for an "early" start at Blazer Bash. Could we compromise and do a 7:30am start?

I would also prefer to have you meet up at the parking area/pullout just north of the intersection of 191 & 128. You can see it here in satellite view: https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=...zEtxNXxerEyCw;FS4YTQIdTNN3-Q&t=h&mra=dme&z=18

I hope that will work for you guys and I look forward to meeting you at the BBQ.

That works. No problem! I love long all day trails! That's what I'm building my blazer for. Street legal, Reliability, low center of gravity, tuff as heck and able to go just about anywhere. Wanna get a custom built aux fuel tank/tool box combo put in where the rear seat is, snorkel and a few other outback goodies.

The 3 day trails are the best!

We don't have on board air or a welder. I'll bring as much stuff as I can to help anyone or myself if in bad situations.

Eric was telling me about some stories he had on that trail and happy he is willing to tag along.

I will be running crack n back on that same day and will have my welder with me if necessary.

Sweet!! You could be the hero that day! Can you pm me your number so I have it on record? Just in case? Thx!

If Eric is riding with you, he's already got it. Otherwise we can trade info at the BBQ

Yea he is crazy enough to join me. :D

Sounds good. See ya there!

... It's what? A 40 mile trail? That's kind of a long trail!...

Maybe time to actually look at the maps you posted?

It's about a 40 mile roundtrip from Moab; well, maybe it's 37 or so. The dirt part breaks down like this: approximately 5 miles of Poison Spider, 7 miles of Golden Spike, 4 miles of Gold Bar Rim, and 4 miles of dirt road to get back to Hwy 191. From there it's some 8-ish miles back to town...

Went thru that once on Metal Masher... "...um, I'm kinda low on gas, how far is it?" Luckily, we were right at the cliff, so I pointed down to the intersection of Hwy 191 and 313: "...see that Shell station down there?" :D

As stated before, Metal Masher has some really good views...

A guy forgets to fill up with gas once, just once. And then sucks the fuel out of your tank far enough to keep it from leaking more and you gotta bring it up. Its not like I forgot to turn the power switch on to the in cab winch controller too at the top when I ran out of gas again. Wait that was me, never mind.

:doah:

Not as bad as John that ran out of gas in his towrig in the morning and ran out of gas in his 4x in the afternoon on the same day.

I like to bring extra water and a good first aid kit. Spill cleanup stuff is good too.
