Blazer Bash 2025

I've been silent on this as I've been curious of what interest there might be. But what it really comes down to is there are a couple of ways this event could go. Underground or not. In Moab or not. Or a combination of those options. All have merit. It really comes down to somebody being willing to take the reigns and navigate the fun that is setting up the event. From when I took it over, things have changed pretty radically in my life. Some of you may want to vilify me for failing on this years event. For that I'm sorry. I tried, got screwed and those that came still went wheeling. Those that know me, know what's been going on over the last year understand what I was dealing with. Sure it's an excuse and sure I should have asked for help. Funny thing is, there's more activity in this thread that there was leading up for last years event. Which that's great for '25, but kinda put myself on an island. Enough with the excuses.

@kgblazerfive has PM'd me expressing interest shortly after this years non-event about taking BB on. I've had plenty of time to think and seeing Keith's already putting in the legwork to iron out things he's proving to be a worthy steward for the event. The main thing somebody needs in this is the want/desire to do it. I'm burnt, beween '23 and this year I was beyond stressed and that kills the fun pretty quickly. I know I didn't take it as long as others before me. But with the way my situation has changed I've got some other explorations to do with one of my other cars that I would like to do next year. I won't be able to take time off for all of the things I want to do.

If I'm not running it moving forward I don't feel comfortable holding on to fees paid for this years event for next year. Not to mention it causes a tax issue for me if it's still in my business paypal account. I'll work with Keith to transition things including the money, but if anybody wants their share back please PM me and I'll make it happen.

Rob I understand and I hope this didn’t come off as a bashing event for you. It certainly wasn’t entitled for that, was more to keep the tradition going on.

I appreciate everything you have done and know how hard it is going through what you have. I did it myself a few years ago and it has taken a toll on myself, relationships and health.

Blazer Bash started out as a bunch of CK5 guys hanging out in Moab. Frankly it wasn't that great. My first trip there I had only been on CK5 a year and didn't know anyone except @B_to_C who drove his truck out too. We showed up on Friday morning and didn't have a clue where we were going. We just found the group at City Market and about 5 minutes after we got there, trucks started leaving. Didn't have any idea what trails were being run so we just jumped in with our K5 loaded full of our luggage. Turns out we were doing Hell's Revenge. Needless to say that was quite an eye opener.

That experience is what motivated me to jump in and help Steve with the event. As a new person I learned how intimidating it is to show up for something like that and not have any idea what going on. I felt like the little lost puppy just following the other dogs around trying to make sure I didn't get left out. I always felt like Blazer Bash could be an opportunity to give people a framework to be able to experience the trails in Moab and not have to worry if they were going to get left behind.

A bunch of guys just showing up in Moab to go wheeling is great for people that already know each other. It's not great if you have any hope to get new people involved in the website and the hobby as a whole. It actually strikes me as a little cliquish.

Beyond all that, there are also good reasons to go through the permitting process. As backwards as it sounds, the anti-access groups get a lot of leverage to close down trails with the argument no one is using them. Permits are one of the best ways the BLM can show the trails are being used.
But you got to meet drunk me in the elevator at the hotel, At least I think it was in an elevator at a hotel, :haha:

One suggestion might be to have a common in town meet point every morning…I ended up at poison spider bike trail on Saturday morning, my own fault partially because I should have researched more but it was nice to meet the group at old city park and city market the other mornings.

I have been asked to sell blazerbash.com but have a few concerns maybe you guys can help me with? What if blazerbash.com eventually gets changed to lets say a gay porn site or something completely different, I would have no control over that. lol
What happens if the new owner dies in a freak gardening accident or similar I would not be able to get it back etc. What if the BB event gets moved to a new location, these are concerns I have about giving up control of the BB site.

Is the domain worth that much? I mean it hasn’t really been updated in a few years so it wouldn’t be much of a loss. All the technical details are here anyway.

I feel Blazer Bash is a CK5 thing and anyone that bought the domain would ruin it. Make it a big corporate thing with no thought to to make $$$.

Not gay so that is not an issue..
Want to keep it in Moab as long as Grand County keeps playing fair.
Also want to keep the traffic coming here for information, not available on the Web site.

Not sure about the if I die part but I am sure my kids and wife could figure it out.

I think you're assuming some big company buying it. I think what he's talking about is the person(s) running BlazerBash actually buying it from him. as @Babaganoosh said, it doesn't really get updated like it should because there is a disconnect between who owns the site and the people putting on the event.

I've seen some of these guys in person... it's inevitable.

I think the same thing applies to whoever owns it. What if you die in a freak keyboarding fiasco! We'd lose it all! Seperation of powers baby! ;)

People are already talking about moving it now. Colorado somewhere, Vernal Utah, and Sand Hollow have all been suggested. I think most of us want it to stay in Moab, but frankly, I think it's up to whoever is putting the work in, and then the rest of us get to vote with our feet. If it's a bad decision, we won't go.

Quite frankly websites are dead (I’m sad about that myself). Anyone tried to navigate the full-size invasion website? Social media is where everything gets promoted now days. If blazerbash is a product of CK5 then it should be promoted here as well as on social media but as far as who actually owns the website, does it much matter?

No offense taken. I want it to keep going but it’s time to pass the torch.

Social media may be where things are promoted, but you typically still have to go to a website to sign up, or buy anything.
FSI is a good example. You probably heard about their event on Instagram, but we're on their (admittedly shitty) website in order to sign up.

Right, I agree that you need to go there to buy tickets, but I meant as far as getting info etc. I guess I was telling @CK5 I wouldnt worry too much about the website because whoever takes over can use that site or even make a new one to ultimately purchase tickets.

The issue right now is that everything is still linked to that site like the Facebook page, ck5 page, all that other stuff but yet the site hasn't been updated in over 2 years in some places.
