Blazer build with pics

DSC00870.jpg

Heres the d44 regeared repainted and with new balljoints.

am i missing something here? or did the 44 get redesigned to look like a 10 bolt? :D

no build thred here man.been just puttin it together lil by lil over the years as i had the money.it hasnt been legal for 4 yrs now.it was gettin ruined by the salt,so i stopped driving it as my daily driver.now im trying to patch up all the holes and make it legal again.but on a no money budget, its gettin more bondo than metal at the moment.lol.

Hey another update here. Getting close to being done with the body work finally. Sanded the whole thing and bondo'd/welded some patches and holes shut. Primed it and went back over it with 200 grit. Almost done spraying just need to get a few more cans on it. I rattlecanned the truck krylon italian od green. It turned out good actually, compared to the horrible two-tone job it had on it. Also finally rolled her out into the driveway, had a good day yesterday so we got to see it from far away for once. It looks great so far. Started it up and put it in reverse and it drove rite in! Thats surprising to me considering the whole thing was in pieces about 5 months ago. Bare steel wheels destroyed the driveway though...

The paints still a little wet in one of the pics thats why its smudged.

You should have known better than to drive it on steel wheels.:haha::haha::haha:

The green paint doesn't look bad either for rattlecan.

lookin really good man.good rattle can job.the color looks good.and when you wheel it and scratch it,a fix is just anether rattle can away.i had mine out yesterday also.since my other truck blew the engine i registered the blazer again.just ordered 130 dollars in repair panels to replace next weekend.should hopefully be legal by next month sometime.i got 35 inchers on mine and it rubs on the way in.i gotta put a bigger door in eventually.but for now aired down to 15 psi gets it in.hahha

Thanks guys. Yah being able to fix it quick was another reason I spray painted it. It looks even better now that its completely dry. If your looking into spraying your truck like this heres an overview of what I did.
- remove all trim
- sand whole truck with 120
- weld holes shut where unwanted trim goes
- grind the welds flat
- bondo the welds and bondo other gaps etc in paint.
- sand bondo with 120 and put more bondo on if necessary
- tape whole truck off
- blow off dust and go over whole car with wet rags
- start by painting door jams black then wait for them to dry and tape them off
- shut doors and prime the whole thing - about 4 cans of primer 2 coats
- sand primer with 300
- clean whole truck with wet rags
- spray green - about 12 cans - 6-8 coats. It runs bad so hold can far away.

In the end we used 12 cans of green 3-4 cans of brown primer and 2-3 cans of satin black for jams and misc stuff. Get it all at Wal-Mart for about $2 a can. The green is italian olive drab.

Not to criticize but, you went through all the trouble to do it right and it came out great. Why not remove the mirrors, door handles and lock cylinders for that last step. Only a couple bolts and screws more to have the finished edges under those parts instead of tape lines.

Yeah I should've removed that stuff guess I just wasn't thinking.

Got the truck back out of the garage again. Installed cap and working on getting the tailgate window usable. Also got new sidemarker lights and tail light covers. Its great to be able to see it from far away. Its looking good and I'm getting excited to drive it. Gettin close...

Does it matter what position those shocks are installed? i.e. up or down on the reservoir?

Looks good man, but seriously get some tires on that thing....

just bustin' your balls a little.

Looks awesome!!! I'll be looking for your truck, I grew up in Nazareth, I live in Easton now, I've got a 91 blazer I bought off an estate sale in Nazareth. I just got it back from my friends shop after having the rockers and tailpan replaced. I trying to decide what I want to do for paint, I've really wanted to do the JD Blitz Black, but it's a bit overdone at this point... If you see an ugly tan and gold 91 in town that's me, have fun an take care of that thing!!! It's awesome you and your dad have built that together, those will be great memories you can look back on some day!!!

Looks good, i used the exact same italian olive green krylon when i painted my truck. The paint runs too easy but it seems to coat and lay nice for rattlecans.

Thanks everyone. I've been staring at those damn wheels for so long my next pic update will have it on the tires! The shocks reservoir can be up or down it doesn't matter. Thanks smier I'll be on the lookout for you. Yeah this OD green runs terribly the cold temperature didn't help either. Had to do 8 thin coats. Also, if anyone from Pa wants to go to Rausch in a few months I need a partner. My idiot friend traded a nice jeep cherokee for a pos 90s bmw so now I gotta find people to go with.
