Blazer build with pics

Got a big update for everyone, since finishing the blazer the 350 wasnt pulling its weight, and 8mpgs wasnt daily driveable so I sold the motor to a buddy and plan on putting something else in it, not decided yet. So in need of a new daily driver last year I began parting out dodge diesel pickups and so far Ive made enough to buy a 2000 f250 7.3 single cab 2wd stick for 2800. I threw a chip and homebrew air filter and exhaust on the cheap on it and its a great dd for me. With the truck Ive been selling diesel parts for a while now. Ive saved up some more money and Im currently building a 96 ex cab cummins I picked up for 1500 that was rolled. Only 140k on it and most importantly 4x4. So currently swapping the bed and cab and keeping an eye out for a donor rig. Im going to document this build here just cause this is my favorite forum and I enjoy looking back on my work.

Also wanted to say building my k5 was a major turning point in my life, made me want to work on trucks, Im currently enrolled at the Pennsylvania college of technology for diesel technology and business and hope to open a shop someday. So thanks to everyone here, if it wasnt for ck5 I probably wouldnt of ever gotten so involved in this build and would of never realized how much I love this stuff.

Plans for dodge are, manual swap and home made compound set up with hx35, s400 should be fine for towing and hopefully 900-1000 ft lbs.
Anyways, heres some pictures of my current project.

Towed it home with the 7.3, thing didnt even flinch did 65 in 5th gear on pennsylvania mountains and egts where around 1000.

Sweet, seems like everyone is getting a cummins now :thumb:

The trucks frame checked out great, everything was within factory spec. Theres a bend in the front x member from someone putting a tow chain there so were heating that and banging it out with a hammer and dolly. Pics soon.

Im just trying to be trendy! cant wait to throw dual 10 inch staxx and cummins c stickers on it guna roal so much coal bro. lol

CUMMINS FACK YEAH!!! :saweet:. With the way gas prices are going noone can afford to drive our big trucks with anything but a diesel :(

4.30 a gallon for diesel man, its awful mite have to convert to veggie oil :) this thing is gonna be another money pit, not touching the motor till I get a nv4500 in it though. got the cab swapped today took 3 people on each side to carry the bastard from frame to frame but its on!

Ok so Im planning to put a used set of compounds or make a set myself to put on this truck over the summer and I want to get a good idea of how expensive everything I want will be. Maybe DEMON44 can help out? Shooting for 500 hp compound setup that wont give me to much trouble towing 10,000 lbs. I need a detailed list of mods Ill need. Ive been reading around a lot but everyone says something different.

I've used a hx40 over a ht3b on the last round of twins on my last dodge. It was good, I'm not gonna lie. but I had fuel enough for 650rwhp at 75psi boost with it. while they were really good....... I was CONSTANTLY ****ing with them about something or another. that got old after a while too. and its a major pita to change the oil filter with the intermediate pipe on and the 2nd battery in place.

SO. would I do them again. sure, but they'll be a 64 over an 88 my next go around. and thats not at all what you'd need. they're not absolutely nessisary for a towable 500hp. if you spend the $$$ on a quality 62 or 64mm charger. you can definately use a single for 500hp and still tow. size the turbo depending on really how much towing you do per month Vs dailydriving/ hotrodding around.

like I said they're sexy, I'm not gonna lie.

the hx40 over ht3b 42mm internal gate - see the air cleaner. It was new when I put them on, it got sucked into a pretzel in short order. that one was an AFE something.

I part diesel trucks out as a job so Im towing heavy pickups on long trips often. Id also like to do compounds because I want the experience with them as I plan on building a hotrod diesel next year. Id like to duplicate that set of compounds you did with the internal gated hx40 over ht3b. Could you tell me a little bit about them? What size injectors would you recommend?

Also Ive been following that thread on cumminsforum JT but the op is very concerned with fuel mileage whereas I wouldnt mind some extra hp with a loss of mileage.

or would an s400 be better than an ht3b. People on cumminsforum seem to favor the s400

My list is

Hx35 or Hx40 over Ht3b or S400
4k gsk
studs
dual disc 1 3/8 input
5x14 sdx injectors
60lb springs
timing
kdp
port manifold
bhaf
exhaust
gauges
afc tuning
remove plate/ or grind plate

Im hoping to accomplish all this for 4000 or under.

Cab and bed swapped!

Heres what Im working in by the way, its 10 inches of grass and stinky swamp mud. I cant get the truck to move with my tractor so I just put it together here, Ive gotten a few new bug bites under there...
The blazer looks sad back there
The ratchet strap was my innovative way of putting tension on the core support so I could get the fender on haha
The cab was heavy as heck, took 8 people to lift it and walk it off the gas donor and walk it on the diesel frame.

Painted it! Its kinda dirty from all the rain. This is my first paint job, I sprayed it in a booth in my tech school. It was a hot day so the booth was 96 degrees so I spent the whole day in there with a respirator sweating like mad, but it came out decent. Currently buttoning up all the wiring, then Im redoing the carpet and some other things. Its not a dually btw I just wanted to see how it would look

Also can anyone tell me how this vaccum line should be?

Im DDing the green dodge, its a 5 speed 4x4 1995 and it gets me around great. Hopefully I can get back to work on the k5 soon, Ill be keeping an eye out for a 454 on craigs once I get some cash in my wallet again. This Chrysler stuff is getting old already, next project will be a k30 crewcab cummins >:)
