Blazer's 68 Nova "Stephanie"

Bit of an update.

Found out where the water came from, which makes me happy. After intake was off and stuff. Was doing some looking around found a bit of surface rust as in like three spots in the hole that the distributor goes through. Then on the top of the oil pump rod had some also. So nearest I can figure it leaked down the distributor hole. Which is a good thing if water is going to get in figure that was the best place for it to go.

Also need to get a new oil pan, wasn't really planning on using the one that it had but... it going to hit the frame so its not going to work anyway.

I think I moved the engine back an inch on my 68 camaro because of the oil pan

obviously that generates other concerns, but never had to play the oil pan game

So have been doing some work on Steph. Bought some new stuff, trying to slug along a bit.

Got a new fuel cell. Got some new fuel line too. Going to get it started with the stuff that is in it now then mod it after it runs.

Had to do a bit of modifying to fit the stock oil pan. Next step was to redo the crossmember but taking out the stock baffling fit the windage tray.
Spent about an hour trimming the crank scraper just about done.

I started out with the oil pan painted the same orange as the engine in the crew cab but when I swapped pans I kept the new one in the silver it came and I kinda like that better. I used the ARP studs for it too.

So went to install the aluminum body bushings, and you need to use the factory lower parts of the OG mounts, yeah... mine are shot so ...... ordered some poly mounts just won'ts use the upper bushing parts.
Guess now I get to work on the front suspension.

So yeah started the day with these wild intentions of getting the subframe mounted.

Started with these bolts washers etc.
Figured I would clean them up make them look pretty reinstall

Yes on subframe connectors. Especially if your putting power in it.

And I wouldn't weld it the rest of the way up. I'm not sure why, but kind of like the frame repair plates for our steering boxes. There's a reason your not supposed to weld it completely around. Stresses or something :dunno:.

Good call, the plastic and the foam breakdown anyway

So should I weld the rest of the sub-frame together?

Yes. Weld it all the way up. Lots of strength to be had from doing this.

Steering frame plates are a completely different thing. Its all about chasing tension stresses from the steering input.
That nova frame, or any other car that doesn't have weld here and there are for cost and speed of production reasons, there is no immediate force there, like the steering box frame plate sees.
But.... It will see forces from handling or twisting action from launching.

Do as you wish, but it it was me, subframe is off, welder is out, 110% I would spend the extra 10 minutes to lay a bead there. And any other place it's missing weld.

For reference, when I back halfed and 4 linked my 84 monte carlo SS, I rewelded the entire stock g body chassis.
