Blazer's 85 Suburban "Twinkie"

So took the Suburban out and got it through emissions had to lean it down a lot and now has a flat or dead spot in the carb, have to check out the power valve.

On the way home the AIR pump went out so now I have to fix that cuz the Astro Van motor is shot.

have decided to start working to a FI system, so lots of updates to follow

So went muddin yesterday same place we went last time.

Truck was running real lean after putting in new jets, think I might have burned a piston runs like it has a dead cylinder going to do a com. test this week and see what my issue may be.

but any way some muddin pics

Bob's blazer is the red one, Scotts is the crew cab, the big rock like looking things in the pictures aren't rocks they are chunks of ice

So a update

Loose plug wire causing the miss

really far off timing causing who knows what issues

rejetted the carb five times, still not right but now runs

going to buy a jet kit and get the jetting right then call it good till the FI

How have I not seen this thread?

Oh and I really dig the paint job that Suburban has. Including the axles:D

So am really debating the FI swap

Carb would be alot easier buy new one be done $470 or so

FI still have to get it, fuel pump wires etc

The only benifit would be the running when its cold no matter what

So not sure what I'm doing here right now.

A rebuild on your Quadrajet would cost alot less than $470. Maybe $50 for a kit or less. If your not sure how to do it maybe enquire at your local speed shop to get in touch with some local hot rodders and they may be able to set up up cheap. Many hot rodders are familiar with them and can do a rebuild for a reasonable fee. Quadrajets are great. Cold weather is not a problem for them - just need a few minutes warmup (in real cold climates like ND). I was going to go FI a number of years ago but after I factored everything in I didn't think it would be worth it for me - I just got my hot rod friend to do a stock rebuild and have been very happy with it (been running the QJet for 20yrs now). Well its a holley and the $470 is for a truck avenger which I thought this had but it didn't.

Sixb the cummins swap would be awesome but I need it for my tow vehicle first :D

The front shock towers are in, one of my last what I thought major projects actually turned out rather easy. I went to the F**D store and spent $36 for some shock towers and did a little cutting welding and bolting.

I welded the stock bump stop to the bottom of the tower then bolted the tower to the frame. should be ok unless I take it flying and hit the bump stops hard

Thanks for posting this. I just had this idea and was wondering if anyone else has done it. I've been rebuilding a Dana 60 that has the same shock mounts as yours (on top of the axle). I've just ordered a set of ford shock towers. I'm running a 6" lift TC EZ Ride's (standard length) up front. I'm thinking that I won't need to mount the towers as high as you did since my springs don't flex as much as 52's. What do you think?

I'm wondering what is the best way to "garage-flex" my truck :D I've supported the frame and let the front axle droop, but I think I need to jack up just one of the rear sides at a time to get an idea of max flex.

If you jack up the drivers side front while letting the passenger side front go down kind of like driving up a ramp on the on side is the easiest way. Use a engine hoist to lift the front and jack one side

lol I have been looking at your post and wondering what the heck you meant just figured it out :D it is paid for

So thought I would do my annual week or so before Blazer Bash update

however got nothing to update yet :haha:

but have a list of things to do before I go
-fix leaky rear diff cover
-finish onboard air
-clean out to get rid of axle grease smell
-buy and put on new carb
-give it a tune up

-get trailer lights working
-get trailer brakes working
-get truck breaks to work better

other then that nothing to bad, might do a trans/t-case mount but we will see, can't do too much might not have something to do next year

-get truck breaks to work better

If it's the first gen Dodge good luck:D
You should buy the hydro boost brake setup from my 92 I'm parting and jerry rig it into the Dodge, disconnect the anti lock system and switch the rear to disc with a driveline e-brake, better get on the ball :D hehe!
