Blazer's 85 Suburban "Twinkie"

Did you get your carb issue taken care of or at least discovered. Poor Twinkie was acting like she was about to cough up her creamy filling towards the end of the day Saturday.

I knew the shaft would hit that crossmember at some point:haha: Thats what it takes to see where to notch it though right:waytogo: hope its all easy to fix:thumb:

Yeah it will be an easy fix going to add some more to it also make it a bit more stronger, well alot more stronger figure if I have to take it out to redo might as well really redo.

Did some work on Twinkie today fixed the frame and pulled the transfer case mount.

Ends up the main mount cracked, at the weld so that gets to be fixed think I am going to add some bracing and stuff and do a stronger plate mount

I also welded the top of the spring clamps hopefully keep the spring from coming apart as much as they do.

future plans include a shock hoop would like to make both sides look the same the drivers is going to be the fun one to make.

So did a bunch of work on the t-case mount. Only got two pictures of it so far.

First is the little scratch that the drive shaft made in it, basically scratched the paint on the mount and peeled the sticker of my drive shaft.

Next is the fix. Cut the tube the flopped the cut and welded it back in nee to do a bit more cleaning on it but turned out ok.

Have a bit more welding and some cleaning on the mount so will post some more pictures tomorrow.

Want to get the mount back in before the weather gets to bad, and might want to take a spin in the snow with it

bent frame pics

Been bent since I got the truck. The front spring mount looked like that when I put the springs in. It has gotten worse though. Going to have to look into some ways to fix it. Before I put in a cage or weld on the sliders, both of which will fix the problem that is happening.

Chevy frames are not attached at the top to anything but the body mounts and they are even further out then the top of the frame so the tend to do what mine is doing. ( I I <--- that to this----> \ / )

I think the front spring mount is as bad as it is, because the truck was in an accident and it took some abuse there.

I'd like to see a pic of the front view of the frame with the bumper off. Also put a straight edge vertically along the frame and compare it to the side to side angle on the shackles. Might have a little frame twist right at the mount. IF it's mostly at the mount, pull the frame bushing, get a solid steel bar the size of the bushing's inside and use it for leverage to bend it back up.
Are both sides the same or mostly the drivers side?

Bet it's mostly or all on the drivers side and you have a hard time getting front spring shackles installed.
Probably hit directly on the drivers side dead center on the front axle. Pivoted the front spring at the front mount pushing the rear of the spring to the right.
Measure carefully to double check the axle is centered under the frame, probably pushed to the right a little.
Might even be causing the front axle to slightly dog leg. Measure from the center of the trans crossmember you built to the center of the lower ball joints, I'll bet the right side measurement is slightly longer.

Don't have ball joints to measure to. Front springs are not in the stock position any more. The front mounts have been moved forward.

I know it was hit and it more then likely did bend the frame at the rear mount. When I first put the springs on we heated the frame at the front rear mount and did some bending just did not get that much out of it.

It seems to be or has bent the frame along the side under both the drivers side doors. Passenger looks good.

When I build some sliders and a cage for it I will straighten it out. Kind of surprised me on how much more it has moved though.
