I ended up trimming the frame at the top the realized that the bottom was already trimmed a bit and once the mounts were in it wasn't coming out the top anyway.

Used a set of new stock mounts. Did not put the felt under the straps not sure if thats a good or bad idea. Put the felt stuff on the mounts though.
 
Still have to do the skid plate

Its not going to fit in the back mounts but will fit on the front. I have the factory skid for the burb so it is a bit longer then what it needs to be.

Not really sure how i am mounting the back yet guess I get to do some figuring.
 
Going to attach the top sides of the mounts to with some square tube. Then put a cover over the tank so I can put my cooler on it.
 
I think the felt, is to prevent abrasion...you could use an inner tube if you wanted, I used some 1/8" garloc gasket material.

So did a bit of work on it tonight.

got a bicycle inner tube from the bike shop, had a hole in it so it was free. Cut it and slipped it over the straps then bolted the straps back down worked rather well.

Got some work done on the skid plate. Shortened it and cut the tabs off in the back going to have to make some tabs to bolt it to but should work rather well. Going to over lap the seam on the bottom then weld it together should make it a bit stiffer.
 
Hey keith guess what a certain 2 tone blue jimmy used on the gas tank.

Yep inner tubes. Well at least until they had so much crap in em they rusted out large holes in the tank. Just sayin the tank I pulled out of the jimmy wasn't oem and it was rusted terribly under the inner tubes.
 
Hmm well I will keep an eye on it.

granted I hate mud so wont see any water there, so will see. Not to much in Moab either.
 
So spent a few hours tonight building my skid plate. This thing is a beast weighs a ton, well not really it is heavy though.

Now Eric has me thinking about the inner tube thing don't want to ever have to take this skid off just to look at things so I may replace the inner tubes.
 
try a ratchet strap instead of the factory strap to hold it down.

Eric, any luck finding the torque converter?

Got the skid plate done

Took the factory Burb skid cut a bunch out of the middle.Then had to make new tabs to bolt it to in the back. Not enough space to use the factory mounts.
Hopefully three bolts will be able to hold it if it end up sitting on anything.

Used the stock mounts in the front. Just about where the angle side braces attach is where I welded it back together top and bottom and it overlaps a bit so should not have an issue with it coming apart.

Will the tank sit up inside the bed floor, or does it sit just below? I'd like to fit a bigger tank like that.
 
It would sit above it, if there was a floor in it. The tank is actually a Blazer tank. The stock mounts mount in the frame I just moved them to above the frame so it is raised up the width of the frame.
 
Had today off so spent some of the day working on the burb

Got a bunch done

Park brake is in, and brakes are bled

Radiator is filled and the hoses are all hooked up.

Tank is in, all the fuel lines are run, gauge is working.

Got the rest of the inside of the skins skinned in the back still have to do the very back not sure he best way to skin that yet.

Have to figure out if I want to redo the whole side or just keep the one with the dents.

May end of just keep the dented on at this point do to time.

I like the line lock/park brake. How long are those lines to get it routed and in that position?
 
I love this rig! :bow: just keep the dented skins. The new ones will look the same way in no time.
