Body Off

Don't forget about where and how you are going to store it. I made a frame with casters and a 1" 4'x8' piece of plywood to set mine on. Wheeled it in and out of the garage for years when I was working on it. Just a thought.

Well sorry it took me so long to update, I kinda forgot some people wanted to know how it went. It went pretty good. It took all day Saturday to undo everything, the worst was getting some of the hard to reach body bolts to break lose because I couldn't fit my breaker bar on and had to use a short wrench and my sub had like 12 or 14 body attachment points. And a word of advice to anyone that is going to do remove a sub body is the center of weight for the sub is back under the rear doors not the center of the over all rig. Also leave the doors and hood on and closed. I had to use 2 jacks, 1 under each end of the body to get it up high enough off the frame rails to get the forks under the body. Also I put a sheet of plywood across the forks so it wasn't metal on metal. I have a little of experience with equipment put as you lift the body keep the forks level or it will slide and hit the back plate of the forks. As I lifted I had my buddy going around with a flash light looking all around to make sure nothing was missed. It went pretty well. Like I said Saturday was the hard, long day disconecting everything. Sunday it took about half a day to lift it. I found I nice level spot next to the barn I work on my truck in, laid 4 sheets of plywood down to keep the grass from growing up under the body. I used concrete blocks side by side 6 high and set them just in front of the rear wheel well and just behind the front wheel well and put a rail road tie across to set the body on. Also I set blocks up under all 4 corners just for saftey. I rolled the frame back into the barn and now I am ready to go. I can't wait to get my hands on it. Now we all know how big a sub is but you would be shocked at how small the chasis looks with the body off and it is going to be sweet to get to all hard to reach palces to clean and paint. I would recomend to anyone that wants to take the truck build up to the next level (as far as clean up goes) to take the body off. Well if anybody has any questions please ask, I would love to help, because you can see by my number of posts that I am doing all this stuff for the first time my self.

yeah I only undid all the conections with the frame. I was worried about the front clip as a whole so I opened the triangle shaped front windows and ran a strap through them and down around the front end. To keep the strap from sliding off the front I took a couple pieces of scrap steel and wedged them into the grill at the top of it and the strap goes under them. And then when I set the body down I blocked up under the front of the body and left the strap on.

what do you think I am telling a lie about cause it is not very nice to be called a lier. I lifted the entire body off. All that is on my frame is the gas tank, tranny/tcase, engine, and then I have a square piece that goes across the front with the head lights still in it (I just cut the wires cause the entire rig needs rewired). I had to unhook the brake lines, fuel lines, steering, all the body bolts. The front quarter pannels stayed attached and I just let the hood stay closed to help keep the fenders spread apart. I also have a strap wraped around the hood and fenders to keep them all together and I had to use a peice of scrap wood to keep the front bottom of the fenders spread (about where the side turn lights are). If I did it again I would probable just take the whole front end off first but I know nothing about body work and was scared to be able to reattach the fenders. So what ever man and not that it is any of your business I don't own a digital, I buy throw aways when I need to, when I have a couple hundred bucks I buy something for my rig or pay a bill (in that order)

Allright my bad, I guess it has been a long day. I am just pretty proud of me and my buddy for getting that body off, it was a beast. Yeah I thought you were calling me out or something. I have a shoe box labeled rig build and I have no pictures in it cause I never take the time to get a camera and I have been working on it for almost a year now and wish I had some pics for before and after. I live pay check to pay check so you know how it is. I work on my truck in a hundred year old barn on my uncle's property it literaly has 1 outlet and a couple lights hanging in it. So I do what I can
