"Bolt-on" Single cab conversion

At some point you're gonna just wish you'd bought a shortbed. :doah:

What do I know, I have both a K5 *and* a pickup ... a truck for every purpose, if not a purpose for every truck. :haha: (Hey, the wife and I are down from seven cars/trucks to four! :D )

*On topic* ... There are aftermarket kits to lock truck tailgates; the guys with the locking tonneau covers use 'em. Pretty sure JCW has 'em; LMC might too.

I doubt it... I haven't really needed a real pickup yet. For the few times I did, I had a friend that has one come over. Honestly, this last time I needed one, I wouldn't have if the K5 had been running, even with the full top on it.

Good to know on the tailgate lock. I thought I'd seen them before.

Easy there Pickens, I haven't owned a K5 in years. I was just offering to take a look at the operation and final product for you guys.

I found the original page that Creative Products had on their half cab product. It was archived on the web. The detail link still works as well as the Blazer picture that Jonrpick showed up in the thread.

Wow! Thanks!

I had seen the page before, but hadn't seen the 1st pic. I had always wondered about a tonneau cover and in my mind, I pictured EXACTLY what was shown there. I wonder if they still have the mold for that!?!

The cover solves the problem of sealing off the tailgate if one didn't want or need to have the bed open, and provides lockable storage. Very cool.

Either way, I saved the pic so it's going nowhere.

wow pretty pricey

Yeah but, price out a lockable tonneau cover for a regular pickup... It's gonna be about the same.

The half-cab kit itself isn't that bad. To me it gives me better options than a soft-top and full top would.

This is very cool...great job on the legwork Pickens. I'll definitely be following this one!

You could just build your own

I found this while scouring the interwebs.

Looks like the Michigan DNR came up with a set of plans to convert their M1009 surplus Blazers to half cabs back in 2000. They wrote up detailed plans with CAD drawings, photos and everything. Not sure why you would want to use the piece of the fiberglass top but here you go. It's an interesting take and decent looking. I'd have to do a different window though.

I've seen that before. It's interesting, and I'd do it if I didn't want such a finished look.

Jon - Whats the current order timeline for you atm ? A few months out still or is this gonna take off soon ?

The discount compared to waiting... $40.00 I think (IIRC)... The balance is tipping here for me...

Whats the current status of a/the group order ?

Thanks big time for the footwork - It is really appreciated !! Props to you

I'm not able to order one personally right now (finances) but hopefully within a couple of months that will change. I still have a list of everyone that's interested, and can still help arrange a group buy.

Look what searching does!

I just ran across a guy that has one of these locally. It is just the fiberglass piece and sliding rear window, without the lower metal portion. It looks to be in good shape.

He wants a $100, but I am in the process of talking him down.

Any updates on the Group order or getting the lower portion?

Thanks in advance!

Or if you get it let send me pictures and I can build a mold of the top. To do the mold, the top you would buy would be perfected of all its imperfections and if needed we maybe able to make it better. Then offer these to the guys that want one for a fair price. I can get the glass work done. Texasbuggys.com
