Boss or anyone that has installed a 1" lift

Re: Boss or anyone that has installed a 1

I'm gonna finish up on Tuesday, I have taken the shroud off before and where the two parts join together in the middle I have zip tied together so it shouldn't be a problem, in fact now that I think about it my t-case is lowered 1-1/2" so I might be OK. I will get the other one off on Tuesday now that I know what works.

Your fan may just clear then...my t-case is only dropped 1/2" so I had to remove a fair bit of the bottom half of my shroud.

Didya order a heater for the garage yet?

Re: Boss or anyone that has installed a 1

I have four nuts with the kit, shouldn't I have 6? Also are the rear sleeves suposed to fit into the mount?

There should be 6 nuts...

I'm trying to remember exactly how it all went, this was in the spring for me...IIRC I assembled the upper poly bushing with the supplied washer on top and the 1" body puck above that and set it on the mounting area. I tried putting the sleeve in but it kept dropping out so I put the bolt in from the top and inserted the sleeve from underneath, then the lower poly bushing, the lower washer and then the nut. The sleeve itself fits inside the upper and lower poly mounts and the bolt passes through all of it. It would be my guess that the sleeve prevents the poly mounts from crushing when torqued.

I hope that helps...

As far as the nuts go, any grade 5 nylocks will do. They are 1/2" X 13 NC BTW.

Re: Boss or anyone that has installed a 1

One other thing...I applied a liberal coating of spray graphite lube on everything during assembly. I would have preferred grease but the graphite has done well so far. I have no poly squeak...yet

Re: Boss or anyone that has installed a 1

That's what I thought, the sleeve fits in the lower poly mount but not the top poly mount.

Re: Boss or anyone that has installed a 1

The upper mount is the weirdly shaped one and gets the sleeve. It is large diameter at the top of it and then has a smaller diameter part, I guess it looks kinda like a mushroom.

the smaller part fits snugly in the steel mount attached to the frame. The lower poly mount is more like a donut and it fits somewhat snugly around the protruding small diameter part of the upper mount from underneath. Then there is the lower washer and the nut...that's how I did it anyways. I don't recall the instructions specifically saying which was the upper and which was the lower. I assumed the bigger mushroom shaped one was the upper because there is no way it can be pushed through the mount, the weight of the body keeps it in place. That way if the nut ever came off all you would lose would be the lower donut and the body would still be supported. The other way if you lost a nut there would only be a donut between the body and the mount with no shoulder to help locate it on the mount. Does any of this make sense?

Hey, sorry for the late reply, but I think Trusty took care of everything for yah

.

But basically, in that pic, that is correct. You should have 6 nuts, but if you only have four, you can get the other two basically anywhere. As far as the sleeve, it should fit into the lower 2 mounts on position 5. Happy New Year!

Hey Boss, on position 5 did your sleeves fit into the upper mount?

Re: Boss or anyone that has installed a 1

To be honest, I don't remember, but I'm sure it did. It's suppose to atleast. Should be long enough to cover half in the lower and half in the upper right? Damn, my memory is sooo foggy today!!

Let me know if that is the case. I'll try to take a good look at my during my lunch break and see if I can bring up some memories from doing it.

Re: Boss or anyone that has installed a 1

It seems like it should but the sleeve is to big for the upper poly mount hole, might have to force it some how.

Re: Boss or anyone that has installed a 1

I'll check it out during lunch. If I remember right, the sleeve slips in and out easily on the lower mount right? I think it just presses into the top one. I'm sure with the weight of the body on it, it will slip in easily. I'm just trying to remember if that was the case....I'll let you know in a hour or so, I'm outty (to lunch) in 20.

Re: Boss or anyone that has installed a 1

Steve, I didn't get a chance to look at it at lunch today...had sooo much running around to do to get ready for tonight. So the memories didn't get a chance to flow. But looking at the pics I took, I'm starting to think they were pressed fit, but just can't remember for sure. I'll try and get back to you tomorrow, I'm headed out for the day and night and won't be around a cpu till late tomorrow night. Going to Atlantic City!!! :)

Re: Boss or anyone that has installed a 1

With the temps you are working in I would bet that the poly shrank. Try putting the poly in warm water maybe? My sleeves were easy to insert but on the 2 piece poly sections I had some minor fuss to get them to fit.
Did you say you are taking ALL the bolts out? Only take out 1 side and leave the other side loose. The bolts and shims seemed to align the body perfectly but I had significant movement.

Also my tailgate springs prevented the body from coming off the frame without excessive jacking. Heavy duty springs! (but my tailgate can be raised with about .5lb of lift-almost by itself)

I would start at a front corner then work to the back then go down the other side from the back. This is because of the hard time with the rear pieces that I had - the lift in the back was just enough to slide the pieces in.

Has anyone removed the tailgate springs?

Re: Boss or anyone that has installed a 1

I don't have the tailgate springs anymore, took them off when I cut the frame down to get the bumper in closer.

Hmmmm, nice! Should make the install MUCH easier also.....

That is great timing for my bumper project - thanks for the tip.

gj steve! I know I said the same thing when I got my ord 1"-er installed. Tough job. Doesnt really require mechanic knowledge or a vast set of tools...but it is (was for me anyway) hard and time consuming work.

congrats,

J

Re: Boss or anyone that has installed a 1

Congrats on getting it finished. Sorry I didn't see this post this weekend and offered some help as well. But, looks like you were in good hands. Only real problem I had in my install was a cage broke loose on one of the pos 3 bolts. Had to drill a 2" hole in the floor of the cab to get to the cage. Took us quite some time to get the cage and the nut drilled out. But, all came out okay. You know, one of those 2 hour projects that took me 6!

Happy New Year, Mr Steve!
