Bought the truck $3200

good idea but I think im going to leave it alone for now, shes running and shifting pretty good.. so just oil and anti freeze im changing

so finally got around to changing gear oil :doah:and the rear was fine...
but the front not so good im going to have to buy gears real real soon

Looks like just a new set of front axle shaft seals and lock in the hubs for a little while with the fresh oil then change it again and you'll probably be fine. Worst case you need new pinion and carrier bearings. It takes a fair bit of rust to ruin a gear set, especially in an off-road vehicle and it's the front axle to boot.

yeah, I will probably change the front again next weekend... hopefully nothing is too wrong but if so just means I can buy lower gears I guess

I've driven worse looking ones without issue. I wouldn't go buying gears for it unless there were non-visual warning signs.

oh im not buying gears for a while (unless I have too), I just really really hate when the gear oil is freaking milky like that. im pretty sure there was mud in there too I pulling clumps of something out.

That looks pretty damn clean compared to some of the ones I have dumped.

See those chunks?

This truck had been sitting in a tree line for 20+ years. You can see the chunks that fell into the catch pan.

Those were chunks of ice. After nothing more than being cleaned out, and some new gear lube, that axle goes down the road just fine.

You'll be alright.

I cant recall any diff on my vehicles I opened up looking any different, they all had milky gear lube and some rust on the parts that dont contact each other..
I never had one give any grief after a good flush and new lube, even one that looked really nasty inside...I doubt any of them ever had a fluid change, and all had well over 100K on them..

One advantage to frigid weather is the water will freeze and ice is easier to remove than water is...once I needed to add some tranny fluid to our torch car at the junkyard, all we had lying around was a pan of dextron we drained from a transmission, that had about a quart of water in it...
I put it outside ,it was about 20 degrees out...about an hour later,I was able to pour the dextron in without any water in it,all the water was frozen into ice!..

anybody want

anybody want my pushbar thing off the front of my Jimmy,
took it off and don't want to put back on so if somebody wants it let me know! $$20

Post up in the classified section (if you haven't already). Much more likely to find a buyer over there.
