I understand that he and others may like the look. My point is that it can sit lower on big tires and not be hacked...and be more functional.

Furthermore, if you don't cut the fenders and you lift it to the sky like that, it's nowhere near 100% functional. Let's see you throw a bag of concrete in the back of that thing, or try to tow with it.

Call it cool-looking if you like, but you can't call it functional.

Give me some time (after finish hacking my K5) and I'll build one of my crews and show you guys what I mean. :D
You are contradicting your self now. You just posted that 2wd pre-runner crewcab, which is totally bada$$ , but is not functional anymore. There's no bed, how are are you gonna throw a bag of concrete in it? Plus I doubt you could tow with it now.

Will someone please post up some more crewcabs so we can get back on topic.

I guess that is what seperates the mall crawlers from the extreme 4x4 people. I myself don't see any crew cab as being a fully functional offroading rig just because of the size, but thats my opinion

They are functional as long as you have room. The bigger the truck, tires, and suspension (flex), the smaller the obstacle becomes. I had a nimble little Jeep on locked Dana 44s and 35"s. My brother's K10 on 38"s wheeled circles around it. We had similard tire and flex to vehicle size ratios, but his was just plain bigger. He could go over stuff I'd fall into. The only place a Jeep does better is in tight trees, canyons, or narrow trails on mountainsides. Out here in the open desert, bigger does better. Check out willyswanter's rig for example. I have some vid I will post when I get home.

Agreed. I don't know if I'd run 12" under any circustances though. Maybe with wide rockwells for stability and weight down low.

I would not run that large of a lift either, but to weach there own.

Anyhow to get this thread back on topic here is a pic of my Crew, I like to keep mine stock to pull around my chopped up K5. I have to admit though I would like a 2" lift & some 33-35" tires.

Being non functional doesn't look right, regardless of whether it "needs" to function or not. A truck sitting down on it's tires with the fenders fitting them looks way better. Take desert racing trucks for example. Some 'glass fenders would be awesome on that, like the black prerunner crew I posted. It's not the '80s anymore, and "monster" trucks never really were cool anyway. The truck would be borderline useless because no one is gonna wanna jump up in it. 3"+ body lifts are stupid, and that much suspension lift is gonna kill your driveshaft angles.

Do it right and cut/flare the fenders.
Are the pre runner crew cab pics in your photobucket? :D

It would probably look good with the feder made bigger but they have to be hacked a lot. I'm not against fender cutting as my truck has them cut But I like it as it is ;)

Don't think so. I posted it above. I have more somewhere, but not on Photobucket yet.

well said..

takes alot of money, cutting or body damage to prove otherwise..

I like peanuts without the skin but with salt. This whole arguement is stupid. I say let the people build what they want as long as its safe. I would also like to point out that not everybody wants sawsall body mods, rock rash, tree bark stripes, or natural weight reduction(rust). Remember one mans junk is anothers treasure.

Blah blah blah.... the world does not revolve around what can, or can't be fourwheeled....:p:

While I agree that putting a 44" Bogger underneith a stock sized opening fender looks extremely retarded....

But, what K10barolingsbrauhwhatever is missing is....yes you could pay a million dollars to a body shop to modify the fenders and build some big fat openings and make them proportionate to those 44" Boggers.

Now, this looks like a completely modified body and now has a new retarded look. What the hardcore folks don't seem to relize is that guys like me and a few others that have posted want a stock looking body that is clean, dent freee, and has nice glossy paint. Simply mods with a suspension lift, different tires and wheels, etc is what makes is different, not giant fenders.

For all of the reasons I just stated is why I run a 35" bogger. Bodyshop'd giant fenders look stupid, and giant tires sitting under tiny fenders looks nearly as stupid. Big flippin' tires belong on true offroading rigs. They look dumb on street trucks, kill functionality, and eat HP and gas.

my crew cab

I just joined and wanted to share my crew cab with you guys. I couldnt find the pics in the computer so I will post them up later. Anyways here is what I got.

I bought an 82 GMC K35 CC that was gutted of all drivetrain but was very clean. I already had a rotted out 84 C20 CC that was past junk. I drug the 82 home and slid a 44 and 14b ff under it. Shortened it to a crew cab shortbox. I let it sit for about a year and just recently got interested in working on it again. While it was sitting a bought a 91 suburban from texas that was spotless without a motor or tranny. Thats where my doors and front clip have came from. I also picked up a southern rust free box. For drivettrain I am going with a TBI 350/ TH350/ NP208 all removed from a 90 K5 I got cheap from a friend. I have have stripped the whole works down to nothing. The CC was a non AC cab so have began working over the firewall to have AC. Plus I am using the entire interior out the suburban right along with the wiring harness. I cut out the steel portion of the dash so I could swap in the Suburban part to gain the larger GM stereo and wiper switch on the column. It is alot of work but it is fun. I will be sending the cab shortly to the body man to be painted inside and jambed so I can install the motor tranny t case and paint the frame while the cab is there. Need to finish the brakes and such also. Like I said i will post pics in the next few days.

I love the look of a short bed 3+3:waytogo: . I think I got wood:o . Now go get some pics of this thing and post them!:D
