Make sure you get the spring plates too, they are different because of axle tube diameter.

Ok, thanks for the heads up.

Besides CUCV's (since I doub't I'll spot any of those in the old junk yards) were there specific years and models that had low gears? Oh, and if I look in the glove box it'll say what gears it has but if it's already out should I be worried about anything such as "gov bombs" I believe they are so lovingly referred to as on here.

Doesn't matter what the RPO code says since so many people change gears these days. Pull the cover and start counting teeth. Any truck 3/4 ton from about 1973-198? will have a 14ff some have 14sf. Gov-bombs in a 14ff aren't too bad like other axles.

Nate, your membership has been handled brother. When you see this you should be a member or very shortly afterwards. :thumb:

If you think you want to go with a locker get one with an open diff so you dont have to spend money on a new carrier. I bought mine open for that reason.

hmmm, I posted but it didn't show up...

I'll look for one in those years and be sure to grab the plates for it too, thanks for the heads up.

Heres a bit of a different angle on things Av. Just gear your rear 10 b then when you have time or money get your 14b gear it to match your 10b gears and switch the 10 b gears to the front and put the 8 lug outers on your front axle then. then you would have 4.88 or 5.13 gears on 3/4 ton axles and as long as you leave your 10b up front open it should live a long happy life. If you decide to do this and are worried about breaking your 10b let me know I happen to have a few extra 10b lying around

hey hey hey that is a good idea. I can't believe I hadn't thought of that before. Hmmm see I have a good gut feeling that I should just stick to the original plan and not get carried away like what always ends up happening when you guys open the information flood gates.

I'm off to the shower but I'll think it over, I like that idea though.
