well today was it . road test day . no real problems other than the sniper learning its self on the road other than my shop or driveway .15-20 miles of town / city driving with lots of stop and go . i still have a stiff start to the gas pedal for the tip in start . i think maybe the progressive linkage kit might help that . some guys have said it helps on the holley forum thread about it .

went good i am happy with it for the most part . got a few small bugs nothing major yet . few more old as hell light bulbs or sockets that need changed out . were working but now not . might bite the bullet and get the leds now so hopefully 1 last change out job for bulbs .

my fuel transfer system works SUPER EASY . tbi tank and sender with pump . wired to dash switch and autometer gauge . then BIG red light on dash only lights up when pumping so you dont forget and over fill . took less than 5 min to free flow from 1/8 tank to 3/4 tank on the driver side . it sure was nice not waiting in line at the pumps for a driver side fill this time . the pumps were full that way .

oh ya i forgot to add that over half a dozen people loved seeing this old girl on the road . they sure do miss these old vehicles . i think 1 guy was about to ask me how much for it . . .

another guy was sad to see a plow frame on it . i told him dont think to hard about it i have 3 others 10x nicer than this one . this is my beater .

some people even commented on dont paint it . leave it as is . i told them that was the plan from day 1 .

few more pics of my cockpit driver seat area . got to get some daylight pics tho .

center is fuel pressure / tach / engine vac . . . dash center is trans temp and pass side transfer tank fuel level . then the sniper unit below that .

well here is my little story i typed up to hopfully help other people make a informed choice so they dont get sucked in to the rabbit hole of hell as bad as i did .

now i can only say for sure on the sniper info but the edelbrock kit is looking better and better via feedback from members here and on there chat forum ( of nice people )

here goes my story : well road time now happening in the truck and i am NOT feeling to confident about trusting this holley sniper unit at all
waah.gif

list of knows problems for me so far :

1= coolent temp sensor is bad under 30 miles of use . does the typical 12-15 degree drop from were it should be lots of people are having problem .

2= throttle linkage arm on unit to short requires spacer bracket . lots of people complaining about this also . i made a 7/8" spacer for it and it helped a lot but still sucks . has a flat spot in it also that sticks . and yes my cable is good . i lubed the hell out of it and it moves SUPER easy you can almost blow on it to move . https://ck5.com/forums/threads/sniper-throttle-cable-update-road-time-feedback.335379/

3= even the super heavy return springs it has you still need another one for the return to zero throttle . makes it even harder .

4= the linkage is 1:1 direct on primary to secondary . . who figured this would be great for street use daily driving ? you need to order a progressive link and upload the option on there softwear and it still dosnt support it 100% so its hit or miss on if it works for you or not . https://forums.holley.com/showthread.php?22553-Progressive-Linkage-makes-Sniper-EFI-WAAAY-Better

5= touch screen ecu unit for in the vehicle has had problems from day 1 fire up . makes button choices all by its self and now its locking up and wont reset unless you turn the key off and wait then restart the vehicle .

6= NOT bolt it on and go self tuning like they advertise on the box / ad's / tv shows . still requires YOU to do a good deal of tuning later with there softwear program if you under stand all of it ( and i dont ) .

7= this being the most important to me is the fact there customer service after the fact SUCKS A$$
ohthedrama.gif
there chat forum for tech help is governed by a english correction gramer checking dictator . my 1st post there i was replyed to by him and told me to watch my self and use spell check / correct punctuation / dont type like you text I EDIT EVERY POST FOR THIS STUFF HERE .
hmm.png
he didnt give me any help at first what so ever . and another member even chimed in and said about the same thing . https://ck5.com/forums/threads/and-i-figured-pirate-was-bad-with-new-members-update.335434/

if there is any more problems i am going to rip this off and sell it . i know lots of people would buy it and prob love it but NOT me !

i have already started looking on edelbrocks pro-flo4 system and its hands down a lot better customer service / chat forum being super nice and helpfull / has progressive linkage already from the factory / timing control already from the factory / port injection sequential / ecu NOT built in to the unit can be mounted were you want it / uses blue tooth to talk to a phone or tablet . and for sbc with vortec heads its under $1900 bucks with the intake .

if i add up my prices here it is sofar .
edelbrock rpm vortec intake 7116 = 265.00
holley sniper unit = 999.95
intake gasket set good gaskets felpro = 40 bucks
msd ready to run dist NOT for sniper control = 350.00
coil for ignition msd blaster 2 & bracket mount = 55.00
new coolant temp sensor for there known defective item they sell you = 20.00
make my own throttle arm spacer 1 hr or buy one and wit 3-5 days @ = 20.00
progressive link kit = 15.00 and hope it helps maybe .
there included throttle cable bracket sucks . no way to keep it from spinning on ( 1 ) mounting bolt ha ha ha .
i am sure there is stuff i am missing here .

grand total in just this list is $1750ish with out other extras .

edelbrock pro-flo4 35780 kit for vortec head engines = $1795.95

got my new backup light today from lifetime led . 3" flush mount pod with 1850 lumens total off 6 led units .

here is the taped to the hitch test tonight .

does real good for distance and spread out of pattern . but up close the stockers still get the sides better . just the nature of the pattern on the led . but i am super happy .

new light / around 50ft from shop door / around 175ft from shop door / around 150ft from side door and seeing the trailer tounge and box in the yard show up / in the shop no lights on just this light / new position in the bumper for the light .

That's no fun, try running non-functional back up lights like me and it makes it an adventure any time you gotta back in the driveway or any where for that matter at night.

well after watching this video the other day and posting the link in the garage section i pulled the trigger .

i got the 1156 in white for reverse and the 1157 in red for brake/turn/tail .

hated to use the global giant but amazon this time was the choice for price / and most important avalible . local parts stores had only the 1157 in red at 1 out of the 3 stores and it was the same price .

i already have a electronic flasher and still leaving the old style bulbs up front so should not be a problem for them to work .

My big block proflo system is ancient (2000-ish era when we built Wally up for TTC) and stuff is all different now but mine still works well and has never been a major hassle to deal with. Big problem these days is a complete gen 3/4 engine is about the same as the darn EFI system for old stuff. I have considered adapting the newer GM operating parts to the edelbrock hardware. If the Holley hardware wasn't crap you could look that direction but...

thanks @Stephen for this info / feedback on the edelbrock .

i am thinking long and hard on keeping the sniper unit . i will prob run it till the end of snow season since this is my plow truck . but come spring time if i am not 100% happy its out of here and a edelbrock pro-flo 4 system will be installed .

oh my what a BANG for the BUCK $$$

i can see from my street all the way in to the shop in pitch black night now . my street to the shop door is prob 300ft / no street lights or house light on .

great under $50.00 buck item to get for function and usefulness :cool1::deal::lombardi:

well i remembered to get day light pics of my extra gauges . dont cry over the holes in the dash . its all chunky already i covered up a few with these placed were i liked them .

pic 1= drivers angle of view over the wheel driving . they dont bug me at all there .
pic 2= closeup fuel pressure 0-100psi / tach 6k / engine vac .
pic 3= center of dash as i see it driving .
pic 4= trans temp b&m gauge with easy to read colors and transfer tank fuel level pass side .

nope 10ft x 10ft and 2 8ft x 8ft all done for under 500 bucks when they spray foamed the shop for me a few years ago couldnt beat that price .

they told me to take piano wire or something like it . shave off the highs and then unbolt the hinges 1 panel at a time and also clamp the torsion spring so i dont die . then use rolled coil flashing its the same width and cut the length and sandwich it on with the hinges and few extra screws . then they will look like a factoryish done door .

Funny, that exactly how I plan to finish my door.

few dirt cheep fixes that WORK !

open wing window and apply small bead of black rtv to area that the seal wont hit cause its super old and just worn out . let it sit open overnight and cure . now close the window and enjoy the quiet no whistle sound . also easy to remove later if need be .and easy to trim down if need be .

2nd is 1/2" pex line cut to length and sliced open and slid over the striker bolt = no more rattles and much more positive door close with less effort to hold tight . even after adjusting the striker bolt .

installing my dash cam with rear view cam option also from the thread in the lounge here . https://ck5.com/forums/threads/why-i-bought-a-dashcam.332387/

i got this thinkware x500 cause of the thread and at the time i was driving on the road for a living and wanted extra video protection just in case . well now i have my truck together its going in my truck .i was able to hide the rear view cam behind the stickers in the rear window and line up the lens to shoot out clear past 2 stickers and still let the slider window open . the the camera display gives you the option of front or rear view on the display . bonus is the rear view gets you about the whole 8ft bed and past . so if i hook up to a gooseneck trailer or 5th wheel it will be super easy now . i just had to use a extra half size strip of 3m double sided tape to help angle the camera a bit more to the right side of the truck tho was all . its not 100% but a solid 90% or so of perfect .

also used some 3m double sided sticky tape after rubbing alcohol wiped off 100% the suction cup pad for my garmin gps unit . use a few chunks to stick the pad to the plastic then a few strips for the pad to glass . DO NOT FLIP THE LOCK LEVER ! this holds it good and also gives it a tiny bit of jiggle flex .

next is wire in a key hot for the new ebay special 2 outlet power port for both of them . used these before in my old tow truck and they worked great so i got a few more . https://www.ebay.com/itm/US-Waterproof-12V-Outlet-Power-Dual-Socket-Car-Motorcycle-Cigarette-Lighter-Plug/142558782297?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

carpet out today to save for the 2wd build .

gps in and road tested for speedo check and i am 5 mph off yet slow .

but MAJOR news is the doubler can be heard 100% now and its LOUD ! ! ! i know from the old plow truck what my th400/205 sounded like no carpet for 12 years . this brings a whole new level of loud . sounds like it grinding marbles on the inside and 1 hell of a clunk from a gear slam some place i didnt think was that bad before .

i hate to do it but i think i might just have to pull the doubler and go reg 205 for now and play with it later on down the road .

and to top it all off the sniper is stalling out on me and i have no way to data log it or see what going on with my controller out for service . :flipoff1:
