budget beater - . . . HOLMES 220 single line boom wrecker install starting ..

I lived somewhere it didn't snow for about 4 years, and I really missed it.

Few patches and quick paint for the season . The 8ft blade has worse rust pitting than I was thinking it had now I see it all cleaned up and 1 color. New skin next year for the 8ft in the off season .

Tons of fun for the most part . Unless you get sh!t jobs .
I don't remember ever enjoying snow removal. But I never had a blade, either a hand shovel or loader of some sort.

Cool that you enjoy the upkeep on the equipment and the job!

Place 10 miles from my town was giving away those big concrete blocks with an eye bolt about 2x4 feet and 3500 lbs away yesterday on FB...good ballast for larger trucks!..

I have just loaded my truck bed with treated sand in the past,at the DPW garage, when I knew a blizzard was coming with wet sloppy snow..put a blue tarp in the bed up over the rails first..

They wont load it with their loader any more though--you must shovel it in yourself.."insurance regulations prohibit it"..
I have had to use some of it on my driveway in years past when we got rain and freezing temps repeatedly....

My plow has a few patches welded on it,and the A-frame re-welded at the pivot and beefed up more--it is painted "Ford Blue" with leftover tractor paint I had from painting my van about 20 years ago or more..

I'm not concerned about looks,as long as it pushes snow is all I care about..
The blue shows up good in snowy conditions,as good as yellow or orange would..I may be the only guy with a blue plow around here, haven't seen another one..

My father-in-law that I run the sign shop with, used to plow snow for extra money in the winter. He used an FJ40 because he'd plow the small lots and he like the maneuverability. Now he still plows our lot with a blade on his 75 K5. I think he must enjoy it even if he'd never admit it.

She been doing real good with the 4 new Bridgestone blizzack tires . Cant believe the traction advantage over reg tires .

9ft blade is an animal for clearing and scraping down . You know its on the truck .

Need to finish my weight mods for the bed . It will get me in close to 800ish lbs .

This long weekend i am pulling the doubler setup to fix the bad bearing preload slop i have on the 205 idler gear setup . Its finaly drove me nuts with the growl at high speed and clunk on/off the gas .

Here is a pic of the truck with 88-98 style 8 lug wheels and DRW caps and 265/75/16 .

Oh and day before last weeks snow dump the rear dif cover gasket blew out . Quick drain / clean / full RTV seal & refill she dont leak anymore .

Then a pass side quick pic . Had a rider for a few min otherwise i plow alone .

Rest of the 203 box oil to drain out and 1 bolt then the doubler is OUT .

205 oil was a bit dark but no major grey color draining out . Will find out soon when a pop the covers and dig in .

All this work to pull out a TINY BIT of shim for end play that sounded like it was the end of the world .

As you can see on the dial it wasnt much . But when the spec is 0.000 - 0.002 max i had a bit over that. The idler gear was SLAMMING the case front to back . And bouncing around @ highway speed.

Pulling 1 thin shim got me in spec and should be good to go . The case is ready to bolt to the np203 range box again and go back in the truck . Thats a job for sat .

https://ck5.com/forums/threads/doub...ion-update-found-the-noise-12-27-2020.335535/

whole doubler noise and clunk story is in this thread .

short story its 98% better on noise level for 2 reasons . pulled 1 thin shim on 205 idler gear shim pack to snug up the bearing play / preload . then hammered the cab floor 1/8" up to clear a rub point making the t-case noise MEGA PHONE its noises up in the cab .:doah:live and learn . . .

road test is much better and now a pleasure to drive . next is add the shifter boots to the floor at some point . then also still need to swap leaf springs and rear flip for stock hangers .

Saved almost 50.00 bucks today digging threw my parts pile . Then went to my buddys machine shop and spent 5min and turned down 1/8th inch each bushing half to make these 2 1/2 bushings fit stock style 2 3/4 spring width . Now i am ready to swap out the lift springs and flip kit for stock hangers and oem style front springs . But i went aftermarket 4 leaf fronts for the weight of the plow .
