buggy build thread.. F-ING TRANSMISSIONS

So clearance wasn't what you thought

Not positive at this point. The bump stop is torn and failed, sad part is they were new sooo:confused: When I set them I had plenty of clearance.. now.. not so much:1zhelp:

Cant wait till this summer for a revamp on the front suspension, some coil overs, radius arms or a 3 link and full hydro should cure some problems "or create others"

If the motor has some breakage it could be a possible stroker motor for the white truck maybe, but that would have to be after the suspension rework.

So earlier this week I did some homework and found out the H2 oil pan is almost couple inches shorter and also has more clearance on the side by my axle yoke. Rounded one of those up this week and got it on there, nice part is it is also a 6 quart pan. Motor seems to be ok..thank goodness.

Decided to take the buggy out tonight .. just to an open wash to play, jump it and play on some boulders.

Was doing pretty well, had the helmets on and was tracking our top speed at 62 mph in 2 low "2:1" :D "Curious how fast I can get this thing in 1:1 once I get a better front suspension ..

Then went to play on some boulders and got stuck... max psi in the tires and we in boulders surrounded by sand.. in runing water:doah:

So.. after trying a few things and our buddies were not coming along our way yet we decided to jog back to the truck and trailer just a couple miles up the wash.

Finally get back to the buggy and get the straps out, disconnect the trailer and hook the truck to the buggy.. and the truck eventually gets buried up to the doors..:doah: At this point I am calling to see where my buddy is in his 4x4 who was suposed to be out there the same time we originally showed up.. it was now 3 hours later. He finally shows up and finds us then promptly gets stuck up to his doors.. son of a gun:doah:

So we make another call to my buddy Aaron and have him bring out his rig on boggers, 1 tons, lockers and my old 8274 warn on it. We get everything unstuck.. then hook the trailer up and head up the wash for some fun.

Start showing off and get the buggy in the air really good and start noticing my go pedal is slacking on me:confused: Then I take note that I no longer have 3rd gear.. so I start hauling ass to the trailer and then I loose all forward momentum

But to my delight reverse still is working:D So I reversed that thing all the way back, flying over the whoops on the rev limiter .. friends think I am out of my mind till they hear I only have reverse.

Soooo I get it up the trailer.. just got home and looks like ill be upgrading the trans and bump stops. To think I was going to be excited that both the 07 truck and the buggy were going to be in service at the same time.. NOPE!

Wheeling season is over, so down it goes for upgrades and the plan is to see some of you nuts in Moab.. Ill get a built trans in it and maybe bring a spare with me;)

Im out--night.

So last night took the girl friend to the brooks n dunn last rodeo concert, had a blast then hauled ass back to my side of town...

Got home around 1am and by 7am I was done with maintenance and repairs on the buggy.

Loaded her up and headed about 2/3 of the way to Payson for some fun in a flooded wash trail.

I am waiting for the good pics to be sent my way but the amazing part is I didn't break anything:confused:

Anywho, one pic till I get better ones, I hope people got some of the boulder fields, just football field after football field of them!

now thats a first lol

Seriously, when we were done i started giving joy rides to my friends son after we got the belts adjusted and him strapped in, even popped the front in the air, tried to sink the motor...the latter part of the trail was just a nasty big boulder field with water everywhere

.no breakage..so not my style:D It was for the better though, being everything else was going to get stuck and it was only getting worse so we turned around. Wonderful weather too for this time a year.

Now the one time I did get stuck was the very end... I tried to combat load the buggy like I do and got stuck on my new fenders lol, had to be pulled off as I had no traction.

I once got stuck on my trailer. It was parked sidehill and was raining so deck was slick. Load w/o ramps and as soon as front end popped up on trailer is spun and slid off the side and just happen that 1 of the 4 lower kingpin cap bolts fell into a stake pocket. I had to jack up the front end of truck with handyman then back off trailer. What a pain.

Not too many more pics, Going to go back if the weather gives me a chance this summer and get some action vids in the booulders.

How do you like the leafs in the front and the coilovers in the rear? I put some TJ coils on my rear and was planning on running 52's in the front, but Ray from Currie gave me another set of TJ coils so I'm considering linking the front as well, I see the Campbell sticker on your buggy, Shannon likes putting leafs on the front of some of the non comp rigs he builds. What leafs are you running?

The leafs are ok for now, not my ideal choice and when compared to my front suspension in my 07.. well there is none..

The springs are the rancho military wrapped 44044 springs, nice and flat. This thing really does not ride that bad but the springs really like to put me air born really easy it seems, or my foot:confused:

My hope is to do full hydro, coil overs and a 3 link panhard or radius arm set up this summer along with going from 103" wb to 112.

Need to find the time though and make up my mind on what I want. I really do enjoy some high speed fun and the radius set up would be more forgiving with that, although hurting my capabilities in other ways.

Its a toss up, it works, but I would like it to work better.

**** me!

Aparently I got on it and got her done a wee bit too much last sunday:doah:

After I loaded it on the trailer i went to reload it to better center it up and it would not move at all:confused: It was dark so I figured I maybe burned up the shifter cable or the t-case had something loose on the linkage and was in neutral..

Nope..

just noticed a nice crack all the way around my bell housing. :(

So my trans guy says he can have one ready tomorrow by noon but that means I have to kick my ass tonight, loose out on a day of work, hustle to get it in and then hit the road by 5-6pm to get out of town . So this one lasted 2-3 trips and a few weeks, I think the buggy is trying to catch up to the white truck.

**** me this hobby is fun:screwy:

What is the trans count at now between the buggy and white truck?

I dunno but its 10 or higher.

I am not really mad at the buggy, I do drive it hard its just tuff to swallow financially and still have a good attitude every time. Some how I just laugh it off, pull a all nighter, bend over and put her back together.

option 1-ultra bell in town for 329.99

option 2-trans guy has my back up trans ready minus my converter, pan and shift kit

option 3 is I have him swap to a k-case.. but that is a gamble on future breakage compared to the ultra bell.

option 4 is I order a new input for the atlas and convert to a t-400 and ultra bell..this sucks because I will have to rework the drivelines, spend a grand or more and rework the cross member and skid.

I really want to wheel saturday:(

I am pretty sure the jumping and no up travel is not helping my cause, time for some upgrades in the front suspension and a frame chop in the rear for some more room.

I must really want to go wheeling this weekend.

Found a good k-case, going to pull my trans out tonight, then bring it to him and the k-case at 8am..

Piddle around till noon, then come back and have it back in and loaded by 5pm tomorrow.

If this thing fights me, or i run out of time to leave by 5 then I am going to run a closer trail sat morning and enter the pos in the long jump at et motopark at 7:30 pm. What ever breaks will then get a nice upgrade.. helmet and neck brace are ready:D

Trans is out, trans guy just called and said new one will be ready by 10 or 11am:D

Only hold up is if I do the ultra bell and put it on, the case is a k-case, not sure if that should be enough or if I should drop the money for the ultra bell?

I should also stop writing dates on the trans when i install them, its depressing when I am in the same month:doah: Maybe put the day on there next time:haha:
