I have no brake lights and gonna remove the harness for the front clip so no head lights, running lights or blinkers. I'm gonna remove the heater, I only have dummy lights in my cucv and gonna switch to 12 volt system which makes the 24 voltmeter useless. The only gauges I need are volt meter, oil pressure and water temp. I'll probably put a egt and boost gauge in it for trouble shooting when I turbo charge it. So should I completely pull all the wiring and start over with the bare minimum?? I'll need power for the gauges some after market lights, Also need to run a few wires for the 6.2 diesel but not many really. Switch to manual glow plug system and starter and alternator wiring. There's probably more but you get the point and I know nothing about wiring at all:confused:
Here is a pic of what I have and another of what I'm kind shooting for on the front at least.

So what would you do splice into the existing harness and make it work.

Build your own harness.

Find a company that specializes in this stuff to build a custom harness for me.

Here is mine.

Here is one I found on the web I like and will build the front to mimic.

What I did was remove the wiring outside of the cab and cut most of the wires from the junction box leaving about a foot on each side then I made a harness from scratch using the box to go thru the firewall.
I also did all my wiring with the battery inside my truck between the seats.
If you give me a list of what you are keeping and where they are and where the battery is, I can give you a shcematic that you can follow to wire it, and since I go to SLC often I could sometime swing by and supervise or check it out for you.
Electrical is actually pretty easy, after seing what you can do with fabrication, you can do wiring, just need some pointers.
:waytogo:

I wish I could take the credit for building the bugggy, all the design and almost all the work was done by a buddy. Not that I'm a total moron and can't build one but if I had built it it would look like it was my first:haha: Which I'm proud to say it doesn't.

Thanks for the offer, maybe when your here picking up your parts we can discuss it a bit :D
I really want to get ready for crawlfest in a month in St George UT but I'm running out of time and will have to just make due with no gauges :eek1: because the 12 volt conversion must happen plus I got to redo the motor mounts, fix a broken starter bolt, obtain and wire in an electric fan, swap out my cracked tranny case, fab up another t-case cross member and switch to a smaller aluminum radiator that I already have oh and install a winch.

I think after Crawlfest I'm gonna put one of diy4x dashes in and put the front together the way I want in time for spring. That's when I'll do the major wiring overhaul.
That's probably more than you needed to know:laugh:

You can get a basic wiring harness for just over a 100 bucks david, that is what I would do then modify as needed

I used a painless street car wiring harness. It has everything you need a more.

I have adapted it now to run, GPS, intercom, race radios, lots of lights, engine, etc.

The harness is a bit over the top for a basic buggy but it does allow for some expansion.
The next car i wire will be a custom wiring job with no fuses only resetable breakers mounted in the dash.

Go buy one from here:
http://www.ezwiring.com/wiring_harness.html

Quality made, WAY cheaper than painless.

Instructions, not perfect, but if you are considering doing it on your own, you obviously will be able to figure it out.

Nice fuse box, wire, etc.

No brainer for the cost and time saved!

kinda like a house circuit breaker set up? If thats workable that would be genius since you would never have to worry about carrying extra fuses. Would definitley like to see pics of that when your done.

Ryoken - not a rocket scientist, but has been putting breakers in cars since 1980.... :pimp:

funnin aside, SixB, i'd say just get a fresh EZ universal kit and mod as needed/wanted...

Probably cheaper to go with a universal kit. I don't much care for them. Seems like you spend alot of time changing what wasn't to your liking.

Problem with starting from scratch is you'll put alot of cash in wire if you plan to color code and so forth.

This is all done with self resetting circuit breakers. Takes a bit more room than fuses and lots of relays.
