First was rebuilding the transmission. One of my dads friends rebuilt it during his spare time and I was anxious to get it back so I could drive it to high school. I drove it this way for a few months. Now it was time for 35s.

I found a parts blazer with a suspension lift and 3.73 10 bolt and 12 bolt axles for $400. I bought new bfg all terrain 35/12.50/15 and now was setting on 7 inch lift and 35s. I did my own body work on the quarter panel and primed the truck flat black

This was my daily driver my senior year. While this one was my daily I wanted one that was a play toy. I bought an old cucv blazer with a locked up 6.2 diesel as the next project. A high school body of mine loved my k5 so he bought his own and was set up similar to mine but was the tbi 87. He was running 36/14.50/16.5 Mickey Thompson belted and I was now on 37/12.50/15 wrangler mt.

I bought 38.5 Boggers, lift, and 3/4 14 bolt ff with 4.11 gears for the new toy. It was set up with a 350 motor, th400, with a np208. We had some pipe lying around and made some cheap bumpers.

The pic with the hood up my buddy's 87
The pic with the Texas Offroad sticker my 84
The green k5 was my cucv mud truck

Not the best pics but it is what I have of us playing around. Carnage from the green k5 was I broke the axle ujoint, lower and upper ball joints on the danna 44. Only thing holding the wheel on was the drag link and brake line. Luckily an excavator was close by to pull me out of the ditch. Also just about pulled my bumper of the daily driver rescuing my buddy (back to the drawing board for the bumper)

I ended up selling the green cucv k5 to buy me a new daily driver. Now the plan was to convert my old 84 to one ton on 44 Boggers. I found a donor parts truck not in running condition to swap over into my 84. I removed the k5 body from my frame which I then sand blasted and painted. I then welded the frame where the power steering sector cracked Then put the Offroad design frame brace on for future stress. The bottom of the k5 cab was cleaned up and placed back on the frame with a new body bushing kit from lmc on 3 inch body lift blocks.

Cab on painted frame
Rebuilt Dana 60 front with true trac locker 5.13
Rebuilt Dana 70 rear with Detroit locker 5.13
Axles are set up as drw
12 inch front super lift springs
8 inch rear springs with Offroad design shackle flip
Super lift extended brake lines cevlar coated
44/19.5/16.5 Boggers on steel wheels

Had a cherry picker and forklift in the yard that made the job easy.

The project was slow with no time or money to work on it. The tires got sold and at one time was going to sell the axles (glad I didn't). When I finally had time to work on it I pieced it back together with an old 350 motor, th400 transmission, np205 t case (slip yoke style), and custom drive shafts. I also went with the Offroad design cross over steering and 2wd steering box. A buddy of mine worked in a machine metal shop. I gave him my design and dimensions of bumpers I wanted. He built them at pretty much cost of metal ($500). The front was built deep enough to eventually put a winch inside of. The truck was now sitting on (43 inch) military tires and black powdercoated halos. The frame for the front bumper was boxed in for strength and easy instelation of the bumper.

It was now time to play. The truck was doing good for the weight of the tires I had on it. The one tons where holding up to the stress test. These pics where the first rides Offroad built as my new toy. I was also driving it on the road on weekends with the top off (weather permitting).

I found a mile marker 9500 lbs winch on criaglist for $100 brand new in the box. The guy said he won it and had it in storage. The guy said it got rained on and he didn't want to mess with it. Picked it up and brought it home. The connections were a little corroded. Brushed em off and re connected em worked like a charm. I also put some bushwacker fender flares on. I like the look of them but hated to cut into such a good cab to put them on. I moved the winch control box inside of the engine bay for the clean look of the winch fitting perfect inside the front bumper. I change tires once again. Back on 44 swampers tsls up front with Boggers in the rear.

Time to take out the 350sbc and replace it with a 383 stroker. I put tbi serpentine brackets on it. I have the passenger side alternator bracket of the 4.3 vortec to convert to the two style alternator but need to drill the accessories hole on the old double hump heads I'm running.

Upgraded to disc brake rear conversion on the Dana 70. It was an easy add and well worth it. This one was from diy4x.

Now time for paint. My dad use to paint heavy equipment so he had gallons of old tractor paint lying around. The color used is komotzo yellow. I was about to get married and the fiancé said we could ride off in the k5 as long as it looked "nice". Haha really all she wanted was it to be one color and not all muddy. The seats were upgraded to racing bucket seats with 5 point harnesses. Dash was still a work in progress but had my brother weld up some sheet metal for gauges. I was now running 39.5 tsl swampers.

The truck was ready by wedding day except the tailgate which I didn't have one at the time. Also my gromsman cake was a triple layered great American cookie cake with my k5 on it. This was the truck on wedding day.

I put a diy4x competition dash in. It was an over all easy install. All new auto meter gauges were replaced tach, oil, trans temp, elec, vacuum, fuel, and water temp. A switch panel was put in for accessories fuel pump, fans, etc. I replaced all the wires with a kwik wire kit (similar to the painless). What I liked about this kit was all the wires were labeled ever few inches for easy identifying. This was a time consoming job but pretty easy once you were going. While I had my trans cover off I painted it to match the oil pan. The old one was rough looking any way. Only complaint about the dash is when driving on a bright sunny day the aluminum reflects off the windshield making it defficult to see. I plan on powder coating the dash on a later date to a different color.

The k5 is now sitting back on 44s. We just had our first baby so haven't had time to mess with the truck lately. I plan on doing a fitech tbi conversion, roll cage, and traction bar setup in the near future. Right now I just move the truck when I need to now the grass. I'm starting to see some rust spots as well that I need to take care of before it gets to bad.
