Build of oleyeller

I live in southeast Texas and my area was hit by Harvey with some flooding. We had standing water on roadways and houses for a few days. I was able to use my k5 to evacuate people and deliver supplies to those who stayed at their residences. These are a few photos of the k5 doing work. I have 44s on it and in some places a 44 was completely under water.

This photo is of my dads shop 2 days after the storm.IMG_2374.JPG

Made several trips down flooded roads to give out bottle waters and mre's to those who stayed.

This was 3-4 days after still water in the streets and we began to rip carpet and damaged property out of homes of those effected.

IMG_2569.JPG Made my mind up going 5.3 ls. I will post part numbers of items needed for the swap as I go. As of now I just cleaned the motor up with a little bit of paint to keep it looking good. IMG_2928.JPG I used oven cleaner which turned out to be a good degreaser.IMG_2938.JPGchevy orange looks good on the new school

Trying to clean up the engine bay and some rust issues while I have the motor out. Shaving the fire wall and fixing old wiring.

No a/c or heater so no need for extra holes

Over 90k miles and 14 years of nasty oil build up on the valve covers lol

Got some of the goodies in hope to have the motor in by next weekend. Offroad design/advance adapter motor mounts and schoenfield headers. Also working on the wire harness myself hopefully I don't screw it up.IMG_2986.JPGIMG_2988.JPG

So test fitting the 5.3 into its place. Looks like I need to trim a little on the fire wall and possibly going to have to modify shifting linkage. The motor mounts fit perfect and bolted to the trans no prob other than the firewall. It got dark on me tonight so Ill post more pics in the near future.

Going to try and get the new fuel tank and fuel pump asembly mounted in the truck today. Also will drop the motor back into the engine bay. Getting closer!

Motor is in place and bolted up. Did not mount the fuel tank today I'll still have some decissions on what fuel line and fittings I'm going to run. As far as trimming went I had to cut a little into the firewall on the driver side for valve cover head clearance. I did not need to trim or change motor cross member. Looks like the shifting linkage for the colum th400 is going to be in the way will look at that closer later. Now just fuel and wire harness and she should be close to first fire up.IMG_3085.JPGIMG_3093.JPG IMG_3095.JPG

Just an update. New fuel tank, sending unit, pump, filter and regulator with fuel lines are installed. Very close to first start up. Still working on wireing harness

Fired up the motor today took a little time and trouble shooting. Now just clean the wireing up and fix a few things. Can’t wait to have this thing road/trail ready.90152E1B-D6DD-46FB-9176-307C786CFFDD.jpeg

I like the front bumper your friend made. Your bumper is the way I want to go with my front bumper on my truck. Since my truck sees more street driving than off-road driving, I want the bumper for smashing into anybody that gets in front of me on the street, and not approach angle concerns off-road.

Getting close to 5.3 first test drive. I’ve been super busy but really feel that I’ll have it on the road here in the next week or so. Just waiting on a few fittings and exauslt and she should be rolling. Also put a set of 40 inch pro comps on. D6A6B8B2-53CA-41D6-A7CF-53AE28DF0A8D.jpeg
