im sure some of you remember what my k5 used to look like: ~9" lift 60/14b with 5.13s, detroits etc. and 39.5's. well i ended up selling the axles to a guy on here, whose putting them to good use, so it wasnt a complete loss. however the truck has been on jack stands since then (December '06:eek1:). i was originally going to 1/2ton it with 6" and 35's and sell it, but i just couldnt sell it because i have emotional attachment because it was the first truck i ever bought. so im bringing the k5 back from the dead. i felt the truck was well built then, but i plan to make it better in every regard from the knowledge ive gained since then. i duno how many of you have seen the low-budget horror movie "Re-Animator" from the 60's or 70's (its a hoot if you havent seen it:haha:), but thats where i got the name for this build. im going leave out specific details for now, but ive got some pics to give a general idea of what is going into the rig for now. ive give more details shortly, im still deciding on a couple things. anyways here are some beginning pics as it sits from this morning, its not much to look at, but that why its a project;):

I also noticed the D60 front has brackets for 1/2 or 3/4 ton calipers to fit 3/4 ton rotors so 15" rims will fit better?

you are correct with both, however i wont be using the brackets for the smaller calipers, ive got a set of 60 calipers im going to throw on there, and sell those brackets.

the 60 has 4.10s and is welded for now, and i pulled the cover of the 70hd today and its got 4.10's as well so i wont be regearing for now, but when i do, its most likely going to be 5.86's. the plan is to put the 14b SRW hubs on to the 70hd and do disc conversion to new the same wms as a DRW 60 (im getting drw hubs) and run my h1's.

What info can you tell us about the brackets on the 60? Who made them, what rotors do you use and got pics of the brackets?

You can get them on egay, they use the 1/2-3/4t calipers so it's cheaper.

Lookin nice, glad to see you didn't sell the red/black k-5

looks like poop now, but yea i just couldnt bring myself to sell it.

wes, i should be pulling those caliper brackets off the axle today, so ill post up some pics.

im heading out to my buddy's junk yard now to pick up some parts, then to work on the truck for the day before it starts storming later

Yeah

Yeah it was a good goofy movie, there also was a movie called From Beyond, made by the same people who made re-animator. Just as good.

What are your build plans?

Alright! I can't wait to see this thing start coming together. :woot:

Thats the thing there, I've seen so many of these brackets on eVilbay that it seems like everyone who fabs them has different specs on them.
For example; one was selling the brackets and they had a bend in them to clear the rotors.
Another was selling flat brackets using some other rotors.
Another one had flat brackets with a ring spacer and yet again, different rotors.

I'd like to be able to fit standard GM 3/4 ton rotors but which brackets do I use?

How is the motor, does it run.

its a 350...of course it runs;):p:. i actually hadnt started it in a year and i fired it up and it hesitated a little bit (the gas in it is 1.5 years old:doah:) but it started and ran great at idle. ive started it up the past couple days and its been running great, cant wait to get it driving around again.

i got the stock body mount/spring hanger off and im waiting for the b52's to arrive. i also hooked up my reverse hi-steer that was on my k30. i picked up 2 sets of 64's at my buddy's yard, 1 set off a 1500 with 3leafs + overload, and one set off a 3500 with 6leafs + overload. the 1500 has a vortec 350 in it with 60k miles, i may eventually go back for that;). anyways, my plan is to combine leafs from both packs to net around 6-6.5" lift with my shackle flip and zero-rate.

also, the things in the last pic were off my d70HD...what are they? they appear to be 1/4"-3/8" thick but i duno what they are. they have 2 nobs on them so i dont think they could really be spacers, and are perfect circles (not cut by man).

The last pic are the rings for centering dually rims with the lug nuts. They are a must-have when running dually wheels.

ahh makes sense. thanks wes:bow: didnt get a chance to take the caliper brackets off today, but i should be able to tomorrow and ill post some pics up for you

well today i got both sets of 64's torn apart, sanded down and painted and took a couple leafs from each to make the set im gona run in the truck. im running 5 long leafs including the main leaf (each leaf is about 2-3" shorter than the one above it) and then im going to run the overload upside down so the leafs will be able to get completely flat before they hit the overload. im just waiting for the zero-rate from kert to show up and i can get them bolted together and in the truck. also have the frame ready for the b52's and shackle hangers once they arrive as well.

i didnt have the camera at the house, but i didnt get a chance to tear into the 60 to pull the caliper brackets off, but im planning to do that tomorrow, so ill get pictures.
