Building the Ultimate M1008 *Beadlocked 42's w/ pic's**

I can e mail him and ask him.
I think one option is run a 2-piece rear shaft. A buddy and I are building a '79 longbed and it has a 2-piece shaft factory.

On the bed, you know I a saw a welder's F350 dually the other day that had a neat bed. He'd kept the regular bed but cut the sides down to the top of the dually fender. Don't know that it would do much for a trail rig, but it looked neat. :dunno:

With the slip yoke on the NP208 I am kind of limited. I have seen a rear driveline on a Burb where it was two pices and had a cardigan in the middle. It basically went back towards the axle parralel with the frame then pointed down to the axle. The axle was shimmed pretty high but made it to where the driveline was almost all out of the way. Does this sound right?

Oh ya, I heard it was like throwing a hot dog down a hallway:haha:

No offence Dirk, I just thought it was a good time to use my one joke:D

Double check every nut and bolt you turn, going as far as marking tightened or torqued bolts with a paint pen to keep track. I did the quick build right before BB '03 and thought i got it all but got bit. My steering arms nuts were not as tight as I thought. By the time we got to Moab the truck was wandering on the highway noticably but I couldn't find anything loose.

I hit a medium sized rock at low speed on the unofficial Friday run on the way out and three studs sheared...:doah: :doah:

It really sucked to have to leave my truck on the trail overnight the first night we were in Moab.

Rene

i remember that... lol.. it was kinda crappy... now that im on the other side of the states, i wont be making it.... and work will be maing it so i couldnt make it even if i was in Moab... lol

Up until this year dirk ran a 208 with the slip yoke rear shaft made from a left over drill casing or steel. He has that kind of stuff at work. I personally thrashed on his shaft and it held up great.:eek1:
Dirk has bent and dented a few driveshafts with his long bed and can tell you what will work and what won't.
Hook up with him at the meet and greet for BB 06' and find out what he has to say.

:haha::haha::haha:

you know a CARDIGAN is a sweater......and a CARDON is a universal joint ;)

....anyways to answer that question its sounds exactly right. There'll be a carrier bearing on a crossmember right at the location of the middle u-joint. Thats how my last crew cab was. part 1 was parrallel with the frame then it dropped at the carrier bearing

LOL......:doah:

Got her up and running today. Drove it around base without front shocks:eek1: It's a little bouncy with the 52's:o I also had some wicked death wobble that scared the **** out of me. I thought the tires were going to come off. Anyways shimmed the the king pins and I haven't felt it since. Man was it scary though:haha:

Looks like I will have to weld the carrier up for the trip to Moab as Lock Right Lockers are on back order and I just came up with the cash.....

Look in the tech section Readymix and I welded my front and did not remove the carrier we just removed the gear cluster. We did it this way so I could make it open again if I did not like a welded front. It is pretty easy to get them in and out. And do not forget to ensure your Ujoints are in the same on each axle.

You are correct about the spring mount except i didn't build it. A friend of mine made it for his K5 and couldn't use it when he went to disc brakes. The purpose behind it is to prevent spring bind and twist whuch limit articulation.

The rear suspension should flex like a MOFO:D

did he say why it wouldnt work with disc's?:doah: thats not what i like to hear:mad: did he have the 1ton perch spacing or 3/4ton perch spacing?
