Yeah, I’m pretty excited about it.
With my daily rig being down and at the shop. I don’t have a safe way to transport my large bottles to the local welding supply. I really don’t feel comfortable laying acetylene on it’s side but was thinking about doing it anyways but overall just decided against it. I have my dads small portable bottles but I’m not sure how much material it will actually cut through. I guess we will find out. This will be a pretty good test to see if these bottles are large enough to cut with the big boys. I have my doubts.
There's almost a full 4x8 sheet of like 1 1/2" steel in our scrap pile at work. Really rusty but I was instantly thinking how I could get it home to build a welding table. I googled it and it weighs just shy of 2,000 lbs. I decided it was not a good idea. LOL.
That’s the thickness we had at my old shop. It just sat on top of Ibeams and concrete posts. Worked great.
Well, I took my bottles in and had them filled. There is no way that portable small tanks would cut 1/2”. Haha one side cut. Going to let it cool a while before I cut the adjacent side.
Probably been a year since I cut anything this thick. Not to shabby for being rusty. Much better than the last guy who cut this haha.
You can see the welds underneath where this table was previously welded to beams. I’m cutting my table out inside those welds. That’s why I have to hit all 4 corners. Would have much rather just cut two corners but it’s the way she goes.

Ok finally back to the fun stuff. I’m not looking forward to grinding this lol
There was one small spot that dipped a little on the table. But I managed to clamp and weld it in place. Should be damn near as flat as can be. Fingers crossed.

Left enough room to put a good sized tool box under it on one side. 
Now for the super fun part of trying to get it off this wooden table lol
Now to put the casters on and wheel it on in. 
Yep I’m pretty happy with it.
I got the dimensions for 81-85 K5’s as long as they are all the same.

Got them edges looking good now. 
Flip seat brackets are a go.
Ran out of welding gas. So just tacked it on for now.
Thinking I’ll use roll pins for the hinge that way it is removable in case something happens. Highly doubt that cold roll will ever bend but incase something does happen it can be repaired instead of becoming scrap.
What about a grease zerk in the center or at least a hole for spray lube to keep it working smooth?
