Burb chop down.

Man nice old truck. Anybody know year?? I am guessing 54 or so

Nice work on the burb. Maybe make it same length as a shortbed pickup, fab in the tailgate area and if you want the burban type buy a shortbed topper.

Tube the rear.

Heck its yours have fun do what you want. Looking good so far!!

AH HAHAHA!!!

Thanks guys!!

I was totally down about about 2 seconds ago. My brother came home and his mouth dropped... And for about an hour we were making jokes about it.

Got more pictures for you guys too.

Tomorrow it is supposed to rain. Monsoon actually. Hahaha. If it doesn't rain all day then hopefully i can get that hoop welding up.

All the cuts were made with a combination of Grinder, sawzall, cussing, spitting, and bloody ragged knuckles.... hahaha. Hopefully by friday I will have this project finished.

After this job I install the rocker panels, and head on to installing the outer fender (driverside) and the hood, and then Duke will be finished!!

Oh yeah, the pictures. The first three are a mock up. It looks good there...

The last two are of what I did later on that day... I got a little trimming happy, and that is hot it stands at the end of the day.

Things I know about that GMC pick up are slim to none..

It has something like 11 or 13 leaf spring packs all the way around. And the truck came from the factory that way. So he was geussing it was a heavily used farm truck back in the day.

It rides like the flinstone car pretty much. But I really dig his truck.

Go find a cheap Crewcab body and swap it on. Make it look like this. Just leave the roof on it.

the only thing about the body swap is that I am doing this in my drive way.

And also I don't have any enough money for another truck, or any soace for a transfer....

But I have a question for everyone. I will be keeping the rear bumper full length, because I bought it brand new for truck, for 200 smackaroos. I'll chop it down after I bend the snot out of it on a trail.

And I don't want to cut holes in it for lights.... So wearing should i mount them??

And what style??

I have the buckets, and lenses for the stock lights. Hell I didn't even take the bulbs out of the sockets yet. But I have nowhere to place them really.

Shoot me some ideas. I was thinking trailer lights....

I used these round trailer lights and drilled holes through the top of the frame. They are out of harms way on the trail and visible to those behind you.

Oops, pic was too big, hoild on.

They are hard to make out, But I think i catch your drift.

What did you do with the fuel filler spout thinga-magogg?? Make a support bracket, or put it in the bed??

You should have left it after your first two cuts. It sorta looked like a Suburban/Roadrunner with the wing and all.

How much does the removed rear section weigh?
I cant wait till I chop my top off
Are you putting in a fuel cell and chopping the frame too?
Looks good

My future plan is just that. Relocate the tank, and chop the frame off just in front of the axle.

But that would mean I would have to four-link it right?? (he he he;) )

HEY JAY!!! hahaha, I was wondering if you were gonna catch this thread or not. This all started out as a spare tire dip removal, and then it kind ballooned into cargo area rework (????).

Oh, and I will weigh up everything later on today. It did shed alot of weight overall. And the someone were to go ahead and trim the frame further up, I think you would lose ALOT more (well depends how happy you get with the sawzall, and grinder I geuss)

But yeah weather wise, I think I can get some work done... The weather network said it was supposed to rain well into tomorrow, but I don't see any. It is really overcast though. So I am going to head down to CT, and pick up some welding clamps, and pop tarts (breakfast of champions;) ). I'll judge what kind of work I'll do by how much the weather has changed?hasn't changed.

okay, so the weather hasn't changed...

I won't be doing much if any welding today... But i will do all the fitting of the hoop today.

I'll also weigh up ALL of the removed metal. including the hoop, inner fenders, and the head liner.

I found some submersable tailer lights at crappy tire while I was there. 69.99 for the pair. I think I will go with this route.

Weight in debris I have removed:

Rear doors=> 45 lbs. per door
Head liner=> 8 lbs.
Sides & Floor (includes inner fenders)=> 135 lbs.
Roof=> 75 lbs.
Rear Windows=> 17 lbs. per window
Window rubber=> 10lbs.
_______________________________________________
Grande total=> 352 lbs.

This does not include the hoop. I decided to keep that out of the equaton, because I am for sure going to reuse that part.

I could also cut the the rear bumper, and probably lose another 15-20 lbs.

Cutting the frame, and floor would net you ? lbs.

Overall I am happy with the weight I lost with Jenny Craig. I lost over 350 lbs. in just three days!! Thank you Jenny.

Oh I caught it alright! Good work! And to think, I was proud of you when all you had done was the rockers LOL. Don't forget those doors are worth a few bucks on Craigslist or whatever.

well I picked up some new tint from crappy tire while i was there aswell.

It's called garbage bag black!!! hahaha

No, no I am kidding. I had to black out the windows for while i am welding. There are little kiddies the run around sometimes in the circle, and I don't want to give them welders eye...

gotta be a responsable offroader, even in your driveway...

oh yeah man. I may end up cutting them up though.... I need some sort of window back there.

But I may end up going with a clear plexy glass I can remove for the summer time.
