Burnt burb resurrection (It's mine again!)

The burnt burb isnt a big build. Just a nice looking DD/camping rig that happens to be in the best condition of any square body I've found. I do however have a big build going. My kids 72 k5(theres a thread on that too). He will be driving THIS year. I have wanted a burb like this for years. I'm finally getting what I want out of my paychecks. I've got my dually(thread coming) to go hog wild on just to sell it or total:waytogo:. I also have the do it right once mentality. I see no point in saving a little cash now to end up not entirely happy with the results. I will have the burb for years to come. I've had over 40 vehicles in the 18 years I've had my license. Now I have the one I've been dreaming of since I was 19, and the funds to see that dream to completion.:D I know the post wasnt aimed at me either:rolleyes: but this build does mean alot to me. Its all good in the brotherhood and like stated by many, This is the best $25 I've spent in years.:laugh:

I definately wasn't talking about you...we're the same age!! But I agree that I spent the best $25 I've ever spent here as well.
 
Just because we're the same age dont mean we arent young dumb and full of stuff.:D Your only as old as you act right:rolleyes: I'm gonna be that way till a higher power puts the brakes on. You know, like if I end up with a wife or something:haha:

Is it possible to move the front axle forward an inch with zero rates without crossover steering?? I figured this would give me clearance behind the wheel when turning. But I beleive that I would have to shorten the draglink an inch too wouldnt I?? Also I called ORD and I think I may piece a system together with them. Its still hard to beat the price on the suspension connection site.

I'm still not sure on this question. Does anyone know this? I have heard of people moving the axle forward for clearance. Also does this create clearance problems on the front fang. If its not neccesary then I'll skip the idea altogether. I'm just wondering due to the 3" lift instead of 4"

For the tire size you want to run, don't bother moving your axle forward.
Up to 38" you should be fine. 39" and bigger could get into the firewall and it helps to move the axle forward.
 
Thanks, that helps with ordering my springs too. Once I hear back from alcan I'll make my decision. But no matter what I'll be buying a lift this week. Possibly today yet. Going to buy the tires in a little while.
 
Just read my email and its $910 for a full set of alcans.:woot: That deffinatley falls into the budget. I'm calling them and ORD today. I gotta get them orderd so I can try to get em on before the build and greet at 76zimmers:D

I can tell you, that you'll run into other things to modify along the way also. How bout brakelines, do you need longer lines for a 4"? Im not sure.
I got a nice set from G&J aircraft, custom made to your specs too.
I like the wheels and tires you got picked out.
 
Stainless is nice for the brake lines but pick up some 2wd 95 chevy truck lines can't remember what side it is but they are long and are like 15 bucks a piece so that might be a better deal. If you plan on just dd this thing you should be able to get away with the stockers.
 
I'm getting brake lines, Ubolts, shocks, and a drop pitman arm from ORD.
Just bought the tires and I'm calling Alcan in a few minutes. After I get my final numbers added for that stuff I'll see if I can order the wheels tomorrow.
 
Awesome!!! After i get my 400 i think im gonna have to look at a tranny rebuild and possibly bigger axles.... Well after i blow them up lol. Im really gonna have to train that right foot of mine to be a good boy...:doah:
 
Parts all ordered

I got all the suspension ordered, tires ordered, and I'm playing the waiting game now. So far,
Springs $1060 shipped
ORD stuff $450
Tires $1020
I'm right at budget for lift and tires, but I'm running short on the rims. I gotta wait and see what the final total is on my card. Rims are gonna be another $500. Springs should be here by the end of the month if all goes well. Everything else will be waiting here patiently.
 
A MONTH!!! NOO!!! I know how you feel though lol, my motor wont be here for 6 weeks :poo:
 
I've been waiting 19 years for this truck. But this month is gonna be the hardest yet. It all started with an 87 2wd diesel. I did the maintenance on the truck for 3 years for some older friends of mine. They wouldn't come off of it for nothing. Then I moved away for 2.5 years and came back. they offered it to me for $3000 on payments. It was almost as clean as the Burnt burb as far as rust. I had it longer than any vehicle I've ever owned (3.5 years:whistle:) All I wanted to do was make it 4x4. Never did but it was still my favorite vehicle of ANY of the 40 some I've had. By the way, it got an average 24mpg with a best recorded of 27.

No bs, ever had a 6.2 with a 700r4 in a 2wd. Interstate driving in cruise control it would never even shift out of high gear. Hills or not. The PO's used it to tow a 26' bumper mount camper from evansville indiana to northern newyork every year averaging 11 for the trip.
