Burnt burb resurrection (It's mine again!)

really if it came to pulling the entire engine ill do a 5.3 or bigger then. right now I just wanna run this one reliably till it just wont do it no more and squeeze cheap hp where ever I can in the process of upkeep n repair.

Most one rear main seal blocks are roller blocks, even if they have a flat tappet cam in them from the factory. Vortec blocks are all roller blocks, and have a roller cam in them. It is just a matter of acquiring the parts. Which if you are not in a hurry, can be done one the cheap. 1987-1992 Camaros with an L03 in them are roller blocks. No one wants much for a crappy 305, but all off the roller parts will work in a 350. Have you ever looked through my build thread for my 1988 V10 Suburban?

don't think ive done more than browse it. :dunno: for sure if I pull this engine out, a gen 1 wont go back in.. but that is good info for sure. this one only has 118k on it so I should be able to keep it going a while... I just gotta make it stop dying and know that its reliable for DD duty.

And try to pick up whatever little performance I can along the way. If I can cheaply roller this block that would be sweet :D if not... then ill live with what it has for now I guess..

Im going to replace the IAC valve, and injectors since there about the only part of the tbi system NOT new... and replace the plugs cause they had a lot of raw gas shoved in em while it wasn't sparking and I kept playin with it. then ill go from there... been reading a few threads on here about data logging so I'm gonna try that too.... figure ill need to anyway if im gonna get a chip burned to utilize the mods

Tuesday I'm going to yank the TBI off of this thing and rebuild that finally to fix my leaking issues and address the fact that I had raw gas coming through the injectors when I was trying to trouble shoot its dying issue.

while watching with the timing light, quite often I had 1/8 thick or better streams of raw, non misted gas coming out. I believe this isn't supposed to happen:dunno:

don't know if it'll fix any issues I'm currently having, but it can't hurt either. even though my wix filters only a year old i'll replace that too because I can.

also in the process I'll be able to get my pressure check port inline. And get my pod spacer in. Hopefully I can get it all back together and running by wensday night.

Sounds like you need to rebuild hte TBI as well as replace the injectors.

That's what I'm doing, lol. Up about 3-4 post's:D. I also cannot seem to figure out where the knock sensor is... even my Chilton doesn't help... it tells me I have one and what happens if its bad. but not where to find it:rolleyes: I bought a new one when I bought all the other sensors, so I figured I might as well throw it in while I'm under the hood

I have heard some 454s dont come with a knock stock, maybe the same for the SB as well? Could just be missing though. And Martin is right, pulling motor is easier to do cam, but your way isnt impossible. Just tight

I'm gonna hold off on all cam swaps and everything now... too much going on:rolleyes: I need dependable and running NOW lol... I'll check there for that sensor, thanks....
Right now its kind of sad because it runs and runs well...... but the fact that it faulters occasionally and left me stranded ONCE, makes me not trust it enough to drive it much due to some of the places I go. Some of the roads would be VERY bad to stall in the middle of. so in the midst of the worst snow storm all year... I drove the town car to work last night knowing there'd be 10"-12" of snow this morning. I'm taking the rav4 to work...... and heres my burb:doah:

the first part of my drive to work is a LONG 2 lane bridge that is one of the most heavily traveled in the area..... mass confusion and traffic issues when something blocks that:doah:

plus lots of other heavy traffic main roads with no shoulder or turnoffs around here.... hard to stay away from some of them

I feel like with that much snow, i would have no choice but to risk it. I would probably just bring a tow rope and hope that someone would tow me out real quick if anything happened. Just looks like too much fun!

It did get me out of a jam in an emergency type situation today:waytogo: promptly got the rav stuck in my yard when i got home at 7 am, went inside and relaxed, crawled in bed around 8, and was informed by the wife at 8:30 that her dentist app is at 9 am TODAY, not tomorrow :doah: brushed the snow off, started it up, pulled the short stick back and away she went. pretty much burried it in the front yard upon return though:haha: havent tried to see if it'll come back out yet...??

Amazingly the rav4 has proven VERY capable in all this. I got it stuck by driving over a 1.5' deep hard pack drift Not realizing that it was as deep as that.... it let me get off the alley, then i felt it sink:rolleyes: I didnt even try from that point... just went inside:haha:

Right now I'd almost say the rav does better in this stuff.... needs more ground clearence, but AWD with a 4 lock button kicks my twin 1 leggers azz... Really wish I could get that lockright/or similar I've been wanting this thing. had the cash up twice but other priorities won out

Wait...you work on the dark side of the river? :doah:

I'm pretty sure I know which bridge you're talking about, and I'll concur about the length. It's a pretty neat bridge. :)

Its not super long, but it is long enough. This is about a 5th of it. But the only suspended portion. It is a pretty bridge.... needed a better photographer that day:rolleyes:.....

I got my TB apart and got kind of stumped... I had gas at one point leaking out of the side of the TB where the TV shaft goes through the body.... (pics a page or 2 back) Is there seals for this? No where can I find instructions about changing seals there or find that part in an exploded view:dunno: I'd hate to put it back on thinking that gas may pour out on my intake again.....
