I've lived in Connecticut all my life, and well, it sucks. The winters suck, the taxes suck, the house prices really suck, the people suck (except for my fellow CK5 brothers of course). I have been really considering uprooting and relocating to southern CO. I was thinking maybe the Pueblo area. I don't want to be totally removed from civilization, maybe even be in a neighborhood in case I decide to have kids.
So my general question is, what is living in southern CO like?
I understand the winters are generally 10-15 degrees warmer than here...?
What are the income/sales taxes like?
How is the DMV/DOT with vehicle inspections, etc?
How are the gun laws?
What are the people like? I live in a world where parents sue the schools when the teacher gives the kid a punishment assignment (like write a letter apologizing for stealing candy from the cancer fundraiser).... not even kidding. No personal responsibility. It truly is sickening to have a teacher for a fiance and have to hear the stories about these people. I want out. Thieves break into a house, get bit by the dog, and sue. And win. Then the poor dog gets euthanized.
I come from a really good family. They are the only reason I havent left yet. It would be tough to leave, especially now since my dad passed on, but I feel like I am drowning in a sea of taxation, lack of personal liberty, and idiots.

The bottom line is, is it worth it? I work for Comcast, and we have a number of shops in CO, one of which is in Pueblo and another in Colorado Springs, so work is not a problem.
Is the grass just greener on the other side?

Pueblo is a little more "deserty" whereas Colorado Springs is closer up to the mountains. I definitely prefer the Springs over Pueblo. If you do look at Pueblo, I've heard people talk about West Pueblo but I don't know much about it. I would check out Colo Springs for sure.

It's a great area with all kinds of activities nearby. The sun is out 300+ days of the year so we don't get a lot of overcast, gloomy days.

It's more of a conservative town with all the military around but I like it! I'll let others chime in on the other things.

Thanks for that, Jeff.
I must say, I was expecting more than just one reply though. Come on guys, lets hear it. This is a huge change and I really don't want to go in blind.

Lounge or regional stuff in the garage? We will cut a new be some slack.

Gun laws. If you are not a fellon, no big deal. Open carry state or concealed carry.
income depends on what your career field is. Definitely lower than some areas but the cost of living is lower. Can't beat the weather. Pueblo has more extreme heat and cold than Colorado Springs area.

Here is a link to the thread I started on this subject. Had some good replies.

I had the same idea as you and it became very appealing when I got laid off. I would still like to do it and maybe will in a couple years but right now Im in the running for a job Ive been trying to get for a couple years so Im gonna stick around and see how that turns out. Good luck to you on whatever you do.

We love it here. I was stationed here from 93-95 but the Air Force had other plans for me. I just moved back 2 years ago and will not move again unless absolutely necessary.
I'm more Colorado Springs. Housing prices aren't terrible. I live a little east, have 5 acres, 2700 sq/ft house, full basement w/ 3 car garage. Paid $269k. Property taxes are $1300/yr.
Springs has about 500k people but they are spread out really well. There is plenty to do here.
Guns are good to go, offroading is nearby, hunting is great. Doesn't get really hot or terrible cold. Mid-upper 80's, occasional low 90's in the summer. A few days in the winter it has went to ZERO * but that is short lived. Low 20's are average winter lows unless a storm system comes through.
Someone comes into your house uninvited = target practice :D

I live in Nebraska and I honestly think if I would move CO would be the only place to really consider.

Colorado is a mix of conservative and PC bull****. One day it's Like how the wild west should be, the next day it's like commifornia.

I me personally if I were you I would go to CO Springs, pueblo is kinda the asshole of the state ( no offense to people who live there) and not much to do. Co springs puts you close to the mountains. A short drive to Denver and has pretty much everything you could want.

Idk about that county but certain counties in col have emissions testing and some don't.

If you come to the Springs, there is no emissions at all unless you own a diesel. If you go north into Denver counties they emission check everything

Very conservative state IMO, lots of religion all around, which is ok but certain parts of the city are JUST too much for me.

The good.
No emissions south of Denver
You can buy beer on Sundays (up til 07 it was a no no)
The traffic in Colorado Springs has really improved in recent years
Property tax not terribly high
Fuel is about average
Sun is out many days of the year. (top 10 I think)
We have all 4 seasons, and the perfect amount of each

And in the springs we get this every morning. I just took it the other day from my phone. I wish I had a camera that could capture the beauty of Pikes Peak in the winter

I like the springs. Lived here almost 20 years. The mountains are close but the weater is not as severe. As far as your 2nd amendment rights it is one of the better places to be. Colorado is a "shall issue" state, if you aren't a felon they wil issue a concealed handgun permit. There are 170,000 permits in El Paso county!
The hunting and fishing are great, the trails are close and vary greatly.
As for the lack of personal responsibility, I am afraid that is a problem for for the whole nation. For the most part INDIVIDUALS are more conscious of their actions but this is by no means the view of the gubmint.[state federal or otherwise]

There are a lot of use in the So. Co. area. Sounds like a meet & greet is in the near future. Watch the Rocky Mountain region.

I love living in colorado you get alittle bit of everthing. mountains, city, deserts down south west cant go wrong. I'm up more north past denver about an hour in lafayette. I run trails in lefthand canyon in the summer lots of fun but just do a search there are trails all over. lots of outdoor stuff for what ever your into. just my 2 cents.

If all goes well I will be picking up and moving from Hudson to boulder soon. This summer we should go do some wheeling

Yes, need another GTG.

We if anyone would just want to.come out I'd be happy to show you around the hills and plains. I've lived here for most my life, pretty much a native which is in common anymore around here

Lifted trucks are great for running over Subarus and Volvos. When I was in Ft. Collins I got mad nasty looks from driving my beat up blazer around.

I have found that I collect a lot of bugs and Prius's in my grille

Fort Collins at least has a agricultural based school so it's not bad. I usually drop the GF off for class at CU and I never see any trucks.
