Calling all Colorado residents...I've got questions!

I'd definitely pick CO Spings over Pukeblo any day.

I've been thru and in the Springs numerous times throughout my life and the scene of the whole town at night is breath taking. Damn! I'm so tempted to drive back right now just so I can see the town again!
 
I down for sure as long as you can handle two crazy boys running around like mountain goats! Thats the best part about wheeling for be. The kids love it! And it wears em out. check this out not sure if its going to work or not but there is so many trails you could wheel all year and still not see em all. For thoses that dont know these are all trail heads for wheeling! Zoom in click on link for more info, pics, vid. http://www.traildamage.com/google_colorado.php There is one that has a crashed down airplane that is still there sounds pretty cool. then there is another that is an old mining town next to a lake that only 4x4's can get to with good fishing. If you don't have lockers you will have to winch is what i hear.
 
I will say probably the only drawback was the amount of Lakes in the area. I came from Washington state 12 years ago and there are lakes all over the place there. Here in the Springs, well, a little sparce. You can head up into the mountains for some reservoirs but they are cold (I waterski if you haven't figured that out).

Pueblo has a large reservoir so that is pretty nice....however, it's the only large body of water so EVERYONE goes there! Not very easy to find decent ski water when there's waves everywhere.

The one thing we did find (although not idea) is skiing on Prospect lake, a small lake in downtown Colo Springs at Memorial Park. Some people say "I didn't even know anyone could ski there b/c it's so small". Well, yes, you can with a permit. If another boat is going, it gets pretty choppy but if your patient, it will work.

Other than that, we really love this area!

I had a permit there for a couple of years, heck I still have a key to the gate. I keep saying ill get another one soon, but since the kids I havent gone to the lake as much as we used too.

I would go to the res every weekend for about 3 years, back when gas was a lil cheaper.
 
Thanks for the info, guys. I must say it's a bit scary leaving everything I have ever known behind, but there's got to be a better way than living in a place that goes against everything I stand for. I might just do it. So I guess the Springs is worth a look.
 
colorado springs/pueblo/SE colorado is pretty conservative. Unlike boulder/denver which has gotten really liberal. SE colorado, Good houseing prices, good taxes. We do have income and sales tax. the PP region (pikes peak) is beautiful. TONS of military people who have been stationed here come back to retire here. Big military presence (5 bases) But beware the altitude, it'll getcha!
 
I live in the Pueblo area now and grew up north of the springs. Lots of recreation, camping, wheeling, dirt bikes, ATV's, Shooting. If you are health conscience, there are some vegan, vegetarian, hemp loving, granola eating, prius driving places too.

Easy to get anywhere on the front range, Ft. Collins to Pueblo, weather is great, some snow but it doesn't last terribly long but deep snow is just a short drive away. Some crime but most decent sized cities have that. I would say Pueblo has a larger low income population than the springs.

Emissions, what emissions?? nope not here. Best advice, come for a visit. Housing prices have dropped some and some desperate people trying to sell.

Sorry not trying to get off topic. If the fire takes out my house I"ll get another one but I'm not going anywhere. I travel a lot for work (like 5 or 6 months a year) and have been around the country and the world. I think that makes me appreciate Colorado even more. If I didn't live here already I would move in a heartbeat.

I guess that I would ask what you are interested in before I answered your question. If the outdoors are your passion then I would say come on out. So much opportunity to be outside and the weather is pretty good for it. If you are more of a city person there are probably other places more suited to "Urban Living".

I am Alexandria, Va. today. I may have to shoot somebody before the day is over. These people are rude and pushy. I told my wife she is going to have to tone down her attitude before we get back to Colorado. The drive back should do it.

Every time I go to New York City, I leave with a headache. I want to be just far enough away that I can be left alone, but not totally removed from civilization. That's actually pretty much what I have in CT, but the weather sucks, the taxes really suck, and the attitudes of people are reflected in it. As far as activities, I like pretty much anything that goes fast and makes a lot of noise. I've got a truck, a musclecar, 2 motorcyles, guns, and it can be a challenge to really enjoy any of them.
 
I live just east of Colorado Springs. It's about 10-12 miles outside of the city limits. very quiet, tax rate is cheaper, neighbors aren't stacked on top of each other, no emissions unless you have a diesel, always a breeze, unobstructed view of the mountains. ...I'm never moving either.

What kind of muscle car do you have? I have an 80 Malibu w/BBC and a 67 Chevelle
 
I can't wait to get back to Colorado. I lived in the Springs for 4 years and loved it. My wife is from Woodland Park, just up into the mountains from the springs. For me, I think a place like that is just about perfect. Smaller town, plenty of space, in the mountains, but the weather isn't too extreme and if you need anything Colorado Springs is 20 minutes away.

I took a job in St. Louis. I didn't have any real options for moving back to Colorado at the time, but I kind of wish I would have just went and figured things out once I got there. I'm convinced there's no better place to live, at least out of anywhere I've been, and I've seen most of the country.

If you're on this site and you have a K5, you'll like the overall culture out there.
 
I feel for you being in St. Louis. the heat and humidity there is horrible. I grew up in E. St. Louis, Illinois and then Granite City..hated it
 
Yeah, neither my wife or I have really taken to it. I grew up in Florida, so the heat and humidity is nothing new for me (and at least I get winter now!), but I hated Florida growing up and couldn't wait to get out. I think 4 years in Colorado and a year in central California spoiled me. The city itself here isn't too bad, plenty to do and all that, it's just in an awful place.

I don't imagine East St. Louis was the best place to grow up, unless it was better then than it is now. I've never actually been through there, I just know it has a really bad reputation. Last year they had a bunch of teachers get in trouble because they were changing student's answers on standardized tests, so that the students would pass and the teachers would get their bonuses.:rolleyes:
